We have never had as many alumni as the bigger schools in the NCAA. But we've always punched above our weight class in Division I hockey. I don't think NIL will be as big of a factor in FCS football and mid-major basketball, but even those sports will occasionally need NIL assistance.
I will say this: If we are not willing or able to raise the funds needed to really compete in FCS football and at a mid-major level in basketball, maybe we should move back down to Division 2. And no, I am not being hyperbolic either.
We aren't competing against the P5. They are literally in a different league despite the "D1" moniker that everyone has.
Schools the size of UND are going to use NIL the way it was more closely intended to be. 1883 is partnering with businesses and non-profits to help facilitate deals with athletes. Donations from individuals will help supplement these deals that are being made. It isn't going to be life changing money but it is something on top of FCOA and Alston to help make it a little harder to turn down some of those outside offers. Not going to work on everyone but the hope (for UND and other Summit/MVFC schools) is it at least makes some difference and keeps a few more of those players around.NIL will absolutely be a factor at UND's level, but in the way that P5 schools are going to dangle much bigger dollar amounts to get the best players at the lower levels.
As for the D2 crap.....UND is one of the few schools in the nation that offers both FCOA and Alston, with only around 50 or so doing the latter as of last fall. The problem is the courts are blocking any chance they have of doing that. They have had ever major ruling go against them. Regardless of what they've done or not done in the past, it is basically our of their hands at this point.

Can't say I believe this is fully accurate but there are some truths in it.
Ignoring that hockey is the economic engine for UND's athletic department would definitely lead to a quick departure. So yes, it is a priority that would have significant trickle down effects. However, that doesn't mean there aren't fair questions to be asked about incremental funding. It is also a lot more complicated and misunderstood on where some of that funding comes from and how it is applied by those giving direct funds to do certain things.HPC I and II, the new football facilities, updates to Bronson Field and the new softball field also show that those in charge are far from ignoring other sports.

I think you'll be surprised. I've heard some of the questions submitted already and I don't think they are going to be afraid on answering them with reasoning they have come up with behind making certain decisions. That being said, I'm sure there will be plenty of answers that people won't like, be satisfied with or disagree with their reasoning (myself included) but people want the chance to ask questions to those in charge and they are offering it up on a silver platter.
I for one would like to know what the reaction within the Athletic Department about people starting GoFundMe's to fire a coach...

What the playoff game is Thanksgiving Saturday. Why should I or anyone be on the hook for tickets if ine can't use them because of holiday plans?
And for the record you could have walked up to the ticket window 15 minutes before kickoff for any playoff game during Bubba's run and get tickets.
No arguments on pretty much all of it from me minus the money grab part. They aren't getting any extra money from anyone on it, unless you have to buy the ticket and aren't going to use it I guess?
I wonder if you call in if you can remove the playoff game from your invoice, similar as you have been able to in the past with the hockey playoff series or like they said you are able to do with the Hall of Fame game. Being that it is a separate line item, I would guess the answer is yes.I'm sure it was a joint decision, but I'm curious if the REA (who handles the tickets) or the Athletic Department came up with the idea.

That's what they have done in the past. It has its own hiccups like I mentioned: season ticket holders don't know they have to go buy their seats within a few days and then end up losing them. The ticket office can put non-season tickets on sale but then the people that buy those don't have a shot a better (more expensive) seats that season ticket holders don't claim unless they wait for those to be released. Again, not saying I agree with it, especially trying it this year, but they are trying to simplify things.
Not a particularly apt comparison, because results, but it is the same thing they do for hockey season tickets.

Quality, proven OL can make pretty solid money in today's transfer portal world. Kilty did just fine for himself ending up at K-State, he was one of the top OL available.

Agreed, but dealing with angry season ticket holders who lost their seat for a playoff game because they didn't go buy them within the first few days is equally as frustrating, as is trying to sell tickets, not knowing what seats are going to be available. Understand why it was done, not sure this was the year to test the waters on it though.

An AD would sure put themselves in a pretty tight spot dictating who a HC can hire for an AC.
If it doesn't work out, makes it pretty easy for the HC to point fingers and say "this was your idea."That doesn't preclude an AD from having input but fully directing a hire seems like a stretch.

You don't have to be on the honor roll to be eligible.
Most schools have it set up so that if you've been awarded an Alston award, do the bare minimum (i.e.: stay eligible and don't get in trouble) and are still in school when the cutoff date is, you'll receive it. -
Wonder if it will be enough to surpass Alston and FCOA that he was getting here?

Armacost has been an absolute shot in the arm for the athletic department with the momentum on all the capital projects and Alston payments among other things. Given all the support he has given the athletic department and of course the AD reports to him, do you actually think Chaves didn't discuss this with Armacost prior to it being done?

I mean if it was a true conspiracy theory and they were actually trying to "hide" it, they would have released it tomorrow before the hockey game when the standard UND fan would be locked in to that.
Or they could have went full blown tinfoil hat, taken the NDSU route and just not announce it like they've done twice now with their MBB coach.-

Allowing each new coordinator to run the offenses/defenses/special teams as they see fit seem to contradict that.
Obviously the preference isn't for an Air Raid offense that keeps the defense gassed and the three units play complementary football, but I am not sure I've seen anything that he's dictated certain things. Just look at the huge change between Rudy and Danny's offense for proof of that.
