Verifiably false information, embarrassing for a professional sports writer to be this bad at match.

Both of these sets of numbers are staggering per win and per TD.

He didn’t get promoted due to his innate abilities, he got promoted because UND football is underfunded and under-staffed. Previous D coordinator decided to leave last second in February, delaying spring ball. Previous position of new D coordinator was safeties coach, arguably the worst position on the team over the past couple seasons.

New DC was lazily handed this promotion, he did not earn it. But, for UND football’s sake, I hope he does great.

I believe Schwenzfeier and Holinka were the two finalists when Holinka was hired so maybe he was hired based on his abilities.

What year did they switch from this wooden floor to the crappy rubberized floor?  If I remember correctly, the new wooden floor was installed for the 85-86 season.

Looking closer at this photo, it looks like this may have been a regional high school game... it looks like school names over different sections.  Were the state high school tournaments ever played in Hyslop?

I ran in a track meet on the rubber floor in 1977 so for sure by then.  not sure how much earlier it was installed

  4. I understand why it will come down but I have a lot of great memories going to games there.

As a kid I got to be a ball boy and sweep the floor for the MN District 31 basketball tourney games.  In the early days there was a dirt floor with a wood floor installed for basketball and a big net around it to keep the balls from going onto the dirt.  I got to sit at the end of the court inside the net and retrieve any balls that went into the net.  Also saw a lot of great UND men's and women's basketball games in there with packed houses for NDSU, SDSU, etc.

Not sure when this pic is from but if you look closely you can see the net in the lower corners of the picture here.

I would say it was either Parks or Nick Jones. Good lord Porter was a long time ago.

I knew Porter wasn't the most recent one to do it but it was a great to relive the memory of knocking goldy out of the NCAAs in OT with at wrap around goal.

Anyone know if UND is looking at Jackson McAndrew from Wayzata?

6-8 Junior with range. Father played at UND on our best D2 teams.

Is a 3 star and has interest from Northern Iowa, Craighton, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Xavier, and others. His father has strong ties to Craighton(McDermott) and N. Iowa(Ben Jacobson) but it seems like this is a kid we should offer just to hopefully be in the mix.

I saw him play last night against Minnetonka.  Very solid player with lots of range.  Had 22 points and hit 4-5 threes.  Would be a great get for UND.

Why would anyone get excited over playing a non scholly team like Drake in a baseball stadium and 250 miles away from Brookings?   No idea how far it is from Drake.

I don't understand the allure of this for anyone.

Target field is about 250 miles form Drake also

I hear ya.  That's why I figure GF would have to be the "Junior" host city, with Winnipeg being the primary host city.  Moncton, NB population is 79k, so not much different than GF.  Hockey enthusiasm would be on par, perhaps better in GF.

    Sounds like a good proposal.

I've long thought a joint Grand Forks / Winnipeg hosting would be awesome.

I was told a few years ago by someone fairly high up with USA Hockey that the chance of GF hosting again are about zero.

Said when US gets the bid, much larger cities want it now and they can way outbid GF.  I saw somewhere that St Paul and the Xcel Center are looking to bid for the next its available.

I've heard from sources that UND lost a TON of money having the women's hockey program which they are still trying to recover from. From the sounds of it might be out of the massive hole in a few more years which I would imagine trickling down to help spending on other programs i.e football and basketball.

My memory from when it was cut that women's hockey lost just over $2M per year.

Yah those 117 yards were the difference for us.  How many did Zavalney have?

Or maybe the point is we had a kid who has now shown he is able to contribute on a team in the Pac 12 and we couldn't figure out how to get him engaged in the offense and keep him around.

He also has 2 more years so let's see how he does moving forward.

That was a huge program error. We can’t afford to miss on guys we already have in our program. Hopefully there was an in house program review to see how that happened. His Dad played at UND. Maybe he just knew he could play up and wanted to.  I don’t believe TEs who just want to block. They want to catch the ball and score.

I believe he had bigger offers than UND but we had an advantage because his dad played for us.  I don't know his dad but ran into him at a game during Billy's redshirt year.  He said Billy loved it at UND.  It's not hard to believe that he got frustrated with his lack of a role in the offense.

  13. The guy that I watched and waited to see get involved was Billy Riviere.  He was rated as #13 prospect in MN as a senior by one place.

In 2 seasons at UND he never caught a pass.  I have no idea if we ever threw to him or not.

This fall at Washington State he had 12 catches for 117 yards and a TD.  It's hard to imagine that we didn't find a way to get him involved in the passing game at UND.
