what happened about making the opposing qb's mom very very nervous in the stands? is that a thing anymore?
tommy's mom is probably more nervous than drake's qb mom's?
Funny thing is Sack City sign said 1.
When I picked it up after the game the student running it told me that #97 from Drake came over when they sacked Tommy and tore the 0 off. He said - 'I didn't think I could go down and fight him or anything.'

Sorry if this has been discussed. I’m traveling and not connected very well.
per Miller mailbag - talking about changes with Schwenzfier and Dosch - changes are going to be more about effective teaching and a positive culture.Should we read anything into the bolded part re: past D coordinator?

Not sure it belongs here but I’m in Rome and was wearing a North Dakota hat tonight. A guy stops me and says Go Sioux.

Who ate during Buck Pitchers?
The most striking memories are of the fall and spring. You'd stumble out at 5:00 into bright sunshine and it felt like you just left hibernation.True. No time to waste during buck pitchers.
I did manage to consume tacos, grinders and cheese tostadas a few times before heading home late at night.

And the Red Pepper had a restaurant in the Spud too.

What I wouldn't give to go back in time to the Down Under on a Friday and see all of the usual faces and $1.50 pitchers.
Way back in the day it was $1.00 pitchers at the Spud. $0.35 (35 centers) on Thursday nights.
same sentiment about going back in time to relive that.

I chatted with coach Kirkwood for a few minutes at the fb golf social on Sunday. He doesn't know me from Adam but took time to talk with me. Very personable and I'd guess is a good recruiter.

I was being a little sarcastic. But for an event that usually requires 20 athletes I find it a little strange that the average D1 roster is 47 athletes and schools like Iowa and Wisconsin have 70-80 members listed on the teams.
Just saying it seems to be a good way around one of the title 9 prongs or requirements.
Just think at Wisconsin where they had 80 listed on their roster last season, someone is like 65th string.
A young woman that I coached in basketball was a freshman at Wisconsin about 12 years ago. She is about 6' tall and an athlete. Within a few days on campus they tried to recruit her for the rowing team. She declined.

Not sure how much they need either but how about we start with getting the 52% of ticket revenue that REA takes and give it back to the fb program to use.
The info below is from a Herald article from 2018 but I don't think anything has changed. I also believe Kennedy tried to change this and it's part of what got him in trouble with the KEM.
Ticket revenues between UND and RE Arena Inc. are split, with RE Arena Inc. currently receiving 52 percent the revenues while UND receives the other 48 percent, according to the agreement.

For the past, idk, 6 seasons, any fg attempt felt like a mistake. It’s getting old. We used to have great kickers.
This is true. And we had great kickers for a long, long time.

Lucky for sure. Bend but don't break defense and missed FG's for NAU were big. That being said, what really sticks out about that game was under 2 minutes left in the first half, UND is up and driving. 4th and 3 at about the 36(?) Bubba decides to kick a FG, which is blocked. NAU goes down to score and is up I think 3 at the half. That decision seemed crazy at the time, there's no way UND was making that field goal. This was kind of a common theme in a lot of games they ended up winning. IF Bubba decides to go for it and they make that fourth down, does that change the whole complexion of the game?
As far as how it shapes up this year. I think it's all good news. Alerus is worth (+7), UND offensively was pretty awful (see 3rd down efficiency), the defense was pretty awful (see 3rd down efficiency) last year and they still won. Went over NAU's new look roster, I'm guessing it's more talented, but lots to work out with so many changes. Getting them early is a good thing. Until proven otherwise, I'm feeling good about this team. Not touching the offense. I've been burned before, but my mindset is the defense cannot be worse than last year. How much better is the question.
In hindsight the 53 yard fg attempt was wrong decision. At altitude it really shouldn’t have been an extreme attempt. In my experience you get about 10 more yards - so similar to 43 yds at home.

I was at the game 2 nights ago. Left my seat right after Twins batted in 4th or 5th. Quick pit stop in bathroom, reasonable line to get hot dogs, down a few sections and another reasonable line for a couple beers. I missed 9 outs. Game moves fast now.

There were a couple of connections back then. Former UND player Paul Robson played for the Blue Bombers for 8 years and later served as their General Manager. His son later played at UND and he maintained a great relationship with UND FB during those years.
For a number of years, UND’s FB coaches would participate in off season/preseason evaluations and practices with Edmonton. I don’t recall the details of that exact involvement. I believe the regional rights clause you mentioned, allowed teams to bring in players in their region for workouts. When our coaches saw guys with talent/potential that weren’t quite ready for the CFL, they recruited them to UND. The best player to come from that connection was Dave Fennell who is in the UND and CFL Hall of Fame, but there were others.Fennell probably the best. Stan Mikowas and Milson Jones also had great careers in cfl.
Also had Doug Ploen and Jeff Jauch whose fathers were with the Bombers too.

We used to be loaded with really good Canadian players in the 70's and 80's. Some of that had to do with the Blue Bombers having CFL rights to some players in their region and helping steer them to UND. I don't know the details of how that worked.
They must still be out there. Not sure where they generally go to college now.

29 minutes ago, UND Fan said:I was one of the first ss.com members – joining almost 21 years ago. I won’t be on the site much going forward but will give some thoughts regarding UND football on a few topics first. I will try not to make this too long and I have no interest in debating my thoughts with anyone.
Recruiting
I have followed our recruiting efforts for many years and was the guy doing the Wiki updates for the last 10 years or so until turning the job over to Hardcore Hawk (who is doing a good job) last year. During that time frame, I followed thousands of potential recruits during the recruiting process. This included kids who attended our camps, prospects we offered or were offered by other conference schools, prospects listed in recruiting websites (247 Sports, etc.), kids whose dads played for us, etc. I have followed these prospects during the recruiting process via their social media as well as other teams’ fan websites.
Our recruiting classes of the last 15 years or so have not been great. If you look at the limited number of: signees we get that other top teams wanted, players contributing as true freshmen, players making all-conference teams, UND players in the NFL (or even getting good looks), etc. We are getting lots of kids without any, or very few, FCS offers. These are good, hard-working kids with some talent but turn out to be average-to-very good FCS players. This needs to change - we need more high-end FSC level recruits before we can expect to be truly competitive year in and year out.
There has been a lot of talk about UND’s location (geography and weather) with many saying that it doesn’t have any negative effect on recruiting. Those who think that location isn’t an issue are very much mistaken! Most kids want to play somewhere that their parents, grandparents and/or girlfriends can attend most games. Although it is improving, the number of talented prospects from ND and NW Minnesota is limited. When you are recruiting kids from Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, etc., there are so many other FCS schools much closer than we are – including all the Dakota teams. The two SUs are getting most of the kids they really want. It’s not just NDSU we have to worry about now, SDSU has been winning just as many battles as NDSU (geography is helping them with some kids). I would like to see us recruit the Winnipeg market (heck, all of Canada) harder.
Facilities are improving but are not there yet. If you had ever seen the offices and locker room under Memorial, they were worse than you can imagine. It was surprising any talented kids chose UND back then. In a couple of years, we should have facilities equal to (maybe better) than the other Dakota schools. That will help a great deal but there is still the distance issue.
I will talk about NDSU a little later but, as the Fargo/West Fargo metro area continues to prosper and grow, the number of talented FB players in this market will continue to grow. We need to get a decent share of those kids. If SU lands the lion’s share, it will be easier for their dominance over UND to continue.
Bubba
Bubba and I are pretty good friends but I truly don’t have a great handle on his ability to lead us to the point where we consistently challenge for conference and national championships. I certainly have disagreed with some of his decisions at critical times in important games over the last 2-3 years. However, based on our inability to land many top-notch prospects, Bubba might be doing a hell of a job!
Athletic Department Funding
Funding remains a major issue. At this point, we are unable to pay our coaches competitively nor are we able to provide many of the “bells & whistles” for players provided by other programs.
The latter is one of the reasons I organized seven “Let’s Help Bubba” campaigns over the last few years. We raised $60,000+ for first class knee braces, Guardian helmet caps, computer equipment for breaking down film, quality cold-weather jackets for outside games, etc.
I offered to run a LHB8 last fall. I was not pleased when it did not happen. It was not anyone in the FB program who dropped the ball. I will leave it at that!
I won’t get into details but I have some real concerns about our athletic fund-raising efforts especially related to the Champions Club.
It makes common sense that averaging attendance of 10,000+ will create more revenue and a better game day experience – this needs to happen soon. We all agree that winning and a positive fan experience at the Alerus will have a positive effect on attendance.
Lastly, on the topic of money, many have stated that the Engelstads only care about hockey. I have wanted to post this for a few years but understood it was not to be made public. Just recently, it did become public - Kris Engelstad has written a check paying for all FB players' summer school tuition for many years. That is not a small check as most FB players are taking classes during the summer.
NDSU
I attended UND when the rivalry was much more intense than it is today. I dislike the Bison as much as (probably more than) any other ss.com member. That said, it is ludicrous to continuously put down their FB program as well as the rest of their athletic department. Now that their womens BB team as back to being good, SU is very competitive in every sport. That certainly can’t be said for UND. Their expectations are to be successful and nothing else is acceptable. They do what is necessary to remain successful!
Team Makers fundraising efforts pay for 100% of all athletic scholarships at SU every year. The Champions Club funds less than one-half of UND scholarship needs. Just think about what UND Athletics could do with an extra $2+ million every year.
SS.com
The constant bantering back and forth is getting real old and is one of the reasons I won’t be visiting the site much going forward. Too often, neither party knows what they were talking about in these “infantile” discussions. My recommendation – if iramurphy posts a comment (FB or otherwise), you can be confident that it is factual. He has the most knowledge and experience of UND athletics (and athletics in general) of any active ss.com member.
Lastly, if you aren’t supporting UND athletics financially as best as you can through Champions Club membership or one of the other funding programs, don’t bitch about our coaching salaries, our bidding for home playoff games, etc.
Reviewing the above, it probably came across a bit too negative. I think the program continues to make progress. Hopefully, we will soon be able to seriously compete for league championships and first round playoff spots annually. The new facilities should help a great deal!
You will see me posting once in a while but, guys – please grow up and stay away from the juvenile discussions. Some prospective recruits (and often their parents) check out a school’s fan websites. Anyone reading ours would not be impressed. I fully realize that a lot of this is common on fan websites but that doesn't mean we need to follow their lead!
The only disagreement I have with this post is that it would probably be a tie between you and a lot of us as to how much we dislike the Bison.

On a portal tangent......not one player on K St MBB team yesterday started at K St.
Someone tell me how the portal is good for college athletics??
Related to that - Nigel Pack, starting PG for Miami, transferred from K St for $800k in NIL money over 2 years.
Miami's women's team has Cavinder twins who transferred from Fresno State. They get $851k each.
Miami has a billionaire sugar daddy that is driving a lot of this.
The $$$ played a big role in all of them deciding to transfer. It's all ridiculous but if they at least had to sit a year it would slow things down.

Agree. He had a great game last night against Lakeville N. against their big Wisconsin commit. He scored 28. Scores from anywhere, moves well. I would offer him.
The Leach kid from DGF who is committed to Duluth plays in AA finals tonight. He was an excellent HS FB player. Played safety. Fun to watch if you are a BB junkie.McAndrew blowing up in the tourney. He had 28 the night I saw him in the regular season also.
I'm guessing he'll go pretty high if he wants.
Edit - he had 25 pts and 9 rebounds tonight in championship game.

St. Thomas is a private university sitting on a pile of money, with boosters that write big checks whenever they need it, nestled in the heart of Minneapolis. They will have no problem settling in to DI.
I would guess that they have a ton of money available. For the '22-23 school year their tuition and fees totaled over $50k. Most private schools in the area cost that much or more but I have always wondered what they do with all of that money.
Tuition: $48,930
Fees: $1,436 -
