I don't think NDSU is going to have a cake walk agiainst JSU. They have proven they can be beaten(USD) if they play poorly. But people that think Jax State is going to roll through NDSU like they did against SHSU are wrong.

And I get sick of UND fans saying they were just a subbed invitation away from winning a National Championship.

I don't expect a cake walk for JSU. In fact I don't think they will win.

I have not heard anyone say that we would have won a National Championship if we got in.  Did you read it on here?   The most loyal fans seem to post on here.  I haven't seen it but I don't read every post.

Like was said above - it would have been a nice stepping stone and would have advanced the program.

And I am sure there were some NDSU fans that were treated poorly in Missoula this year. Like SiouxRube said, there are Richards in all fan bases. I wish it didn't happen, but it does. I didn't hear about any major problems at the NDSU/UND FB game this year. From all reports things went rather well. But I am sure yiu could find a couple of fans that had a bad experience.

I'm sure there were some bad experiences in Missoula.  The only data point I have is 4 friends of mine that are Bison fans did go to Missoula and told me that they had a great time and were treated great by the people there.

  3. I'm guessing he was a soft commit as he never announced his commitment to UND on social media as far as I remember (don't have access at work).

On a different note, I'm in the camp that doesn't understand the hate for kids that switch their commitment.  While I believe that a kid shouldn't commit unless they are fairly certain they will honor that commitment, it is a huge decision they are making and if they do change their minds I don't fault them for that.

I did glance at his Twitter account yesterday. He mentioned the offer from UND but I didn't see a commitment tweet to UND.

  4. in the little I've talked to Justus, sounds like he was a super Oly lifter in HS. Then got hurt in fall camp.

I happened to run into him at a game and he indicated to me that he came in with an injury and didn't know it and it was found early in camp.   I might have misunderstood him too.

  5. Why doesn't he take a normal red shirt this year.  Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that you can take your red shirt year in any of your available 5 years on the team..

He didn't see the field this year if my memory is correct...

I believe he already used up his redshirt year as a true freshman.

  6. Bar Shuffleboard being subject to different sizes and surfaces just appeals to the appeal and raw human nature of the sport, like the green monster in fenway or the short porch in Yankee stadium. It challenges participants to strive various settings, including, but not limited to, variable lighting, levels of sobriety, noise levels, and surface conditions. Is there enough saw dust on the table? Is there too much? Is the table wet from spilled beer?

Have you ever seen croquet played in the rain? I didn't think so.

All the unnatural challenges push competitors to the very limit of their person, hell sometimes even past it? Many a times I have seen a frustrated player toss a bullet stone at an opponents carelessly dangled fingers to send a message. That kind of palpable intensity is something croquet could only hope to bottle up.

I just helped a friend move a bar shuffleboard machine into his basement last weekend.  Bar shuffleboard is a much better vs. croquet for the winter months in MN and ND.

  7. Ask American hockey fan who won Major Junior championships last year.  Same difference.

Thanks for making my point for me.  The people directly involved care a lot - whether it is NCAA Hockey or FCS Football (or Major Junior hockey, I guess) and the rest of North America has a very passing interest.

Again - NCAA Hockey and FCS Football are similar in importance.

  8. TSN NCAA hockey schedule.  I think they are airing more hockey games than FCS football.  Just a guess though.

Go to WInnipeg or Toronto and ask who won the NCAA Hockey or FCS football champoinship last year. I would guess the majority of people have no idea.  Like I said before - they are similar for most of the US and even Canada.

  9. Title IX has a lot to do with why hockey is not offered. The other factor is start up cost because you need an arena. It is a huge money maker at UND and a number of other schools. Don't kid yourself as to what stirs the drink and funds the other programs at UND. It is the only reason that Omaha had football as long as it did because it always operated in the red, but the hockey program was so far in the black  that it funded the other sporfts. As profitable as men's hockey is and can be, women's hockey is not at this point. If you start men's hockey, you have to start an equivalent women's program. If hockey was not attractive or popular, I don't think you would have had Penn State and Arizona State recently starting D1 hockey, and there have been discussions at a number of other schools, including USC and Iowa.  Football might be going the other way with all of the concussions.

Much of this is just silly.   College hockey existed long before Title IX and college teams didn't add hockey at that time.

If  you are worried about a sport impacting Title IX - FBS and FCS football has many more scholarships than hockey so they would be the first to go if that was the main driver.

I know a lot of hockey fans think the whole world is watching and enthralled with the sport but most of the country doesn't follow it and FCS football has an equivalent following.   Most of Canada doesn't give a rip about US college hockey either which is saying something since they are the biggest hockey fans in the world.

  10. Both are similar.  The number of schools that play college hockey is not that large.  It is the top tier of college hockey but most of the US doesn't care about hockey.   FCS football is not the top tier of college football but there are a lot more people in the US that follow college football so it is a wash in my opinion.

Not many people in the US could name the FCS national champion or the college hockey national champion.   Most don't even know Union College exists.  Hell - I even had to look up their nickname (Dutchman) and I was at the Frozen Four when they won it.

  11. Well, seeing how some of the members here don't think that an FCS championship is a very big deal, I just made the obvious comment.

Most on here agree that FCS championships are a big deal.

  12. The "field" in SDSU's facility is shorter than UND'S.  SDSU's has an 80 yard field with an end zone on each end for a total of 100 yards. SDSU has jump- and field events areas outside the turf but inside the track (much like many 400-meter outdoor tracks). I understand UND'S facility has a total of 120 yards--100 yard field with an end zone on each end; and UND'S facility is so large that all field events areas are outside the track.  That's a unique and very nice feature for an indoor facility.

The endzone corners at each facility are rounded because of the track.   The corners are clipped just a little at the SDSU facility (but, again, it has a total 100 yard field surface compared to UND'S 120 yard surface). I haven't figured out how the tracks are configured but there may be some slight differences on turn radii etc to fit the UND track around 120 yards while the SDSU track is wrapped around 100 yards. I think one would need a photo from the ceiling of each facility to see how they each fit.

If I am recalling correctly, the UND facility is considerably larger than the SDSU facility -- maybe as much as like 30,000 square feet?  I think SDSU's is about 150,000 sq ft while UND'S is 180,000.  Those are big buildings! (Our old west-side grandstands at the football stadium, including the press box on top, would easily fit within the SDSU building.

Another poster asked when the SDSU facility would be finished. I detected a little snark in the question but I'll respond as though the question was serious.  The facility is essentially finished and was opened for use a year ago. The facility has a lot of natural lighting because of the ribbon of structural light-permitting panels that can be seen in the pictures. If you are inside the facility during daylight hours you will appreciate the natural lighting.  We have a nice Daktonics board installed which gives near-instant results for the track and field events.

SDSU's facility is extremely impressive.  UND's is as well.

No reason for anyone to be snarky.

  13. I asked this earlier but didn't get any response.  Does anyone know if Dale was asked if he had any interest in returning before Bubba was hired?
