Recruiting is huge factor.   Here is a little story in that regard. When Bohl was still at NDSU we went down to play Northern Iowa. They kicked our ass.  As a matter of fact they embarrassed us with their physicality..  After that game Bohl said---we have to recruit a different player to be competitive at this level of play.

Its alot easier to coach if you have the players to be competitive. IOW its not about the Xs and Os its about the Jimmies and the Joes.

    Good post.

The year UND beat Wyoming was the year that Bohl cleaned house.  His attitude at Wyoming is if you quit, you are gone. If you arent involved in the game, even from the sidelines, you are gone.  His practices are brutal, so if you can't keep up, you're gone. It was a horrible year for the Pokes but they are a much better team now and they absolutely never quit and they can keep up.

He isn't the nicest guy, friendly enough though, but he is respected.

They don't get the best players at Wyoming and they'll never win an FBS championship, but they now can knock off teams like Boise State and Missouri.  They have hosted the MWC championship gsme and the Bronze Boot for winning the CSU game has been in Laramie for a few years.

I'm wondering Bubba' s teams will at least get to the level of competing in the best FCS conference, the MVFC?  I dont expect multiple FCS championships.  I do expect them to at least be in the hunt more often than not.

    Big question marks here...

  2. Small town paper like the Herald are doomed anyway.  Be happy they somehow exist.  Face facts, once the boomers are gone, so are papers like the Herald.

    Just my $.02.

Hell will freeze over before Wyoming ever drops the Cowboy logo. The logo is the most common image in the state and people use it EVERYWHERE!

    It's on my vehicles.  Pokes!

That one will never change.  The slogan, "The World Needs More Cowboys" was used in a marketing campaign focusing on a very diverse group of students at UW.  It was a great campaign.

Those professors discovered that later and that controversy was quashed.  I have one of the small posters in my office close to my big REA picture.

I was able to get in touch with him a couple years ago.  Wanted an autographed photo for my dad's mancave.  He took care of all of it.  Dude rules.

Ruled isn't exactly what he did in the end at NDSU, but I met him and he was a decent guy.

Describe why NDSU and UND football players on the current team have any reason to think this is a rivalry? Nobody on the current team played in the 2015 game and they were all in diapers the last time this game meant something.

Rivalry doesn’t just mean “big game”.

Definately rivals.  The players probably already feel it no matter what is said.

Doesn't mean I'm going to go bat s#$t crazy spewing insane nonsense like, "Who knows who will win with a rivalry game?:

    Everyone knows UND will win.

    :p

Not sure why the fans stormed the field though it’s not like Missouri was ranked. SEC whoopie do

    Lol.

Yeah, they were the 26th team in the AP Poll.  Cant imagine why Pokes fans were excited.  Shocking.

  8. Oh, the smack talk brings joy to my soul.

    It's Sioux/Bison week, baby!!

My $.02.  NDSU will be a tough task.  I doubt they are overlooking UND and will be ready.  UND will score on them, but not enough.  NDSU will probably win by 2 tds or better.

On the other hand, my other school is Wyoming.  I thought Missouri would cover the 17 pt spread.  WTH do I know?  LOL

nothing says college football tailgating like the smell of all those hog farms surrounding beautiful ames, ia blowing their manure smell down to trice stadium on a fall afternoon.

Ah, kind of like Greeley, CO with the silage in the air.

    Smells like money they say.

And NDSU contributed in no way to those teams having a poor performance that day.

Team’s talent and performance don’t exist in a vacuum or on paper each Saturday. How they perform against a specific opponent speaks to that opponent just as much as it does the team.

This Bison fan doesn’t believe for a second, no matter how many layers deep you go, that NDSU’s success is the result of luck. They have a winning formula that makes the other team play mistake free football to keep up with them. They also consistently have an FBS caliber O-line that surprises FBS schools who think they will just out muscle NDSU. And that’s exactly what you see when they line up against FBS teams.

I agree.  As much as I want the Herd to dump a t#$d, they don't. They are the model to emulate and improve on.  I have to admit that I was even cheering them on against Kansas State.  The owned the line play for much of that game.

I do think if they played a tough FBS schedule they would be too banged up in the end to be competitive though. Add more scholarships at the FBS level, that could change.  (hint, hint)

I hope Bubba and his staff can do it.  Gotta beat those Bison!

  11. Here we go again.  Boone, the mascot is gone, but the Pioneers nickname appears to be a target.

As much as I want UND to pound the Pioneers, I will never forget Gwozdecky and his refusal to call UND anything but the Fighting Sioux.

I hope they end this madness.  Even as a Sioux fan, I could at least see that there was a weak, IMHO, argument to change our nickname.  But, Pioneers??  Come on already.  Keep the Pioneers!

I am actually surprised Boise has not had any rumblings about college hockey.

They have the arena, culture, premier state school, and close to Colorado Schools to save a little on travel cost.

813 miles from Boise to Denver.  And that is the closest D1 hockey school. Not that close.

Tier 2 academically, not bad.  But, a bad reputation in the past had MWC schools question their invite.  Definatelt strong on athletics.

Still, a westward expansion would be nice to see.
