  1. These "Sioux were Silenced" organizers need to get free keg beer and free pizza at their next rally.  Then the college students will come running!!  Heck, call it Springfest and they will come out in droves!!:D

With "creative" t-shirts and everything!:lol:

  2. what will be the excuse when there is low turnout for the next one?

Let's see ... a rivalry football game back in their hometown, a "kickin' party" off campus, or they don't want to be seen with a bunch of people older than their parents. :0

  3.    I try to eat healthy the majority of the time, but it seems that there are always opposing views on what is good and bad for you.  And it isn't always food that the "experts" conflict.  Better not use cell phones, lest you die of cancer.   If you followed the hysteria, you might not ever want to go out of the house, or eat anything you don't produce yourself.  Coffee, eggs, wine, beer -- all bad for you.   No, now they are good for you.  Personally, I am not going to force myself to have a Todd Marinovich diet, because frankly he turned out to be a mess.  Everything in moderation.

A new study found that we're all going to die some day.  Plan accordingly.  ;)

  4. I'm willing to say the NCAA is not bluffing on that. Why? It's the same approach they took last time, namely, you can have any nickname you want, but if it's the wrong one in our minds we're coming at you.

And given the NC$$'s well known willingness to change its rules to achieve its desired ends you can bet, no pun intended, that they will do so without much prodding.  ("We've received complaints that by not choosing a new nickname you're still abusing, and being hostile toward, some overly-sensitive souls when other schools' fans chant 'Sioux Suck!', so we're going to sanction you as we see fit, and there's nothing you can do about it, lowly member-school.")

  5. Whoa, whoa, whoa, stop the clock.

I was with you up to "...breach of the Agreement, and...."  Are you suggesting that the NCAA can not only sue but also arbitrarily impose "sanctions" for the (ahem) violation (wink) of a non-existent rule?

There is no NCAA rule requiring member institutions to have a nickname.  Much in the same way there is (thankfully) no NCAA rule that exposes members to extra-judicial sanctions for allegedly breaching a contract with the NCAA.  Can we please, now and forever, divorce the notion of sanctions (not going to happen) from liability for breach of the settlement agreement (which I concede is a conceivable, yet laughable, risk)?

Why not?  They could sue UND for breaching the agreement by not complying with the nickname requirements as a legal lever to fully enforce the sanctions that would have been enforced when the original "hostile and abusive" list was issued.  That would effectively estop UND from arguing the legality of the NC$$'s sanctions or their authority to devise the policy in the first place.

Moreover, breaching an agreement with the NC$$ could also provide a mechanism for the NC$$ to impose other penalties on UND for violating any number of other NC$$ rules.  I haven't looked, but I'm sure the basic membership is somehow generally premised on UND complying with "all laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc., violations, thereof may constitute grounds for suspension or termination of the membership...".  The NC$$ is a private organization with its own rules, and its own arbitrary sense of "justice".

  6. Yes... The sky is falling.

Not really, but the NC$$ has a history of governing its charges in arbitrary and capricious manners, depending on the "offense" and the relative strength of the defendant.  They may grant big, powerful North Carolina a pass for its "class" scandal, but they're also as likely to hammer North Dakota into dust for not toeing the line on its Indian mascot crusade.

  7. Yes if the NCAA changes the policy or hell freeze over whatever one is first

Or I wear 'su fan gear first. So my money's on Hell freezing over first, and then the NC$$ pulling its head out of its a$$ after the next Ice Age.

  8. How is it derogatory when people use it to abbreviate our state and there are businesses with that name, Nodak Rural Electric? Call them up and tell them their name is derogatory, after they laugh at you and hang up report back to us on your findings.

Some people are just hyper-sensitive ...

  9. Although all of that is correct, if leadership at the University would have had the desire to keep the name, they wouldn't have just been sitting there waiting for Standing Rock to do something. They would have been actively engaging them on how, or what needed to be done to keep the name.

Like, oh around the time, in 1989(?), when Kendall Baker attempted to drop the moniker on his own volition over the summer, when he thought nobody would notice?
