    What are they doing now

Rudy’s AD at Lewis and Clark High School. Berthold ND. Has coached football there the last 4-5 years. His wife has a very good job in the Minot Public School system so I’m guessing that’s why he never pursued another college coaching job. Don’t know about Knauf.

Not saying he's going to be good or bad but zero HC'ing experience and his offenses did exactly light it up at Iowa (where he coached OL) and Wyoming.

Iowa’s offense got remarkably worse after Polasek left.  I don’t know if you can attribute it to him leaving but the stats don’t lie.

Yea pretty ice cold takes out there. Plus he seemed to be getting a bit fatigued with being the HC IMO. This looks like a perfect move for him.

Agree. Didn’t seem like he was enjoying his job this year.

Going from NDSU to some G5 schools is a down grade . Which guys who left last year went somewhere with a better team or even a NIL payout? Sproles and Hayes?

Sigle for sure. I could argue Eubanks as well. It doesn’t really matter where they go, what matters is they left. Sigle, Eubanks and possibly Dom Jones would have been starters this year. Kobe would have added depth to the rb room, and Pierce probably would have started as well. That puts a lot of stress on a coaching staff to either go to the portal themselves (which is a total crapshoot at this level) or put in a guy who might not be quite ready to play yet.

Which FBS teams? G5 or P5. Because G5 and P5 are in the same subdivision in name only.

Does it really matter where they go when they leave?  If FCS schools can’t retain their top talent it definitely becomes a problem.

A mixture of both. Working from memory, players have gone to LSU, Kansas St, Coastal Carolina, James Madison, South Florida.

I think Hayes originally went to Virginia and Cox to West Virginia as well. And the mass migration to Colorado State last year.

How many athletes at the FCS level would be attractive to a FBS program? They ended up in FCS for a reason. Not many players slip under the radar anymore. Jim Kleinsasser would have likely ended up at an FBS school if he were graduating high school today.

Aside from the occasional "late bloomers", I don't see a lot of FCS players being offered by FBS schools.

Off the top of my head NDSU has had 10 guys move on to FBS teams the last 3 years, and 6 just last year.

Those schools that are doing nothing certainly will have to analyze.  Those FCS schools trying to compete with FBS offers while taking money from other donation arms of the school are pissing into the wind.

If the collective detracts from Teammakers or other charitable donations, then I agree, it won’t work long-term.

What NDSU is doing is trying to raise money to maintain what they have while having zero idea if it will work.  They will never have as much as the schools they are trying to fight against.  They are simply reacting and maintaining.  That is never a successful strategy.

    So is doing nothing.

So, someone was saying that Transfer Portal for non-graduate students opens today?  Is the fact that we're not seeing any TP announcements so far a good thing?  Or too early to tell?

The thing about the official portal is that it’s not accessible to the public. Sites like on3 and 247 are just scouring social media and news outlets to get the info. So if a player doesn’t make it public on social media it might take a while to know who’s officially in the portal.

I may not be phrasing my question well here, but what I’m asking is UND positioned well to compete with its peers for NIL money in ncaa hockey? The dynamic with the NHL money hasn’t changed, to your point, but UND hockey competes against schools that have some incredibly wealthy and enormous alumni bases. Do you anticipate NIL money becoming the factor in hockey that it’s become in football?

I know UND loves and supports its hockey and maybe I’m naive to the level at which UND has alumni financial support, but I don’t believe if Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State or even Minnesota decided to pull together significant NIL support that UND could pull together similar money. I could be way off base here.

To add some context to what Bison06 is alluding to, NDSU lost two All-American wrestlers to NIL last year; both to Iowa. Rumor is they’re both getting north of $100,000. Hockey schools like UM, UW, Notre Dame and maybe a few others will be able to offer kids hundreds of thousands of dollars.
    It’s not just a football/basketball thing.

For some reason I thought Bo was coming back

if someone enters tomorrow can they still play in the fcs playoffs the rest of the playoffs

That’s up to the individual coach/team. I don’t know UND’s stance, but Entz has said once a player enters the portal they are off the team. I agree with that. They’re essentially quitting, so why should they still be on the team.

Miller is probably one of them, really turned around his play since the UND game. I’m sure the others are o line and maybe a guy on the defense

NDSU trying to chase the money isn’t going to end well

Speculation is that’s it’s Miller, Kopp, Wisnewski, and Zabel. JMO, but I don’t think we see any guys entering until the season is over.

Not sure how many are getting D1 interest.  I saw Pietrzak just got an offer from Southern Cal and Shaffer has had some P5 interest.  Believe St. Romain is committed to NDSU.  Conklin I believe just got offered by NDSU after their title game. Ovsak is a nice athlete but pretty small.

Pietzrak’s offer list is up to about 12 or 13 I think. Doubt he’ll be playing college football anywhere in ND. Conklin has a PWO offer from NDSU, St. Romain is committed to NDSU, and I’m pretty sure Schaffer will be getting offered.
Christmann is committed to Moorhead. The one who’s really intriguing is Jordan Leininger. Not committed as far as I know. The kid stood out big time in the championship. I think he could play LB at the FCS level.

I seriously think the news guys in Fargo are a huge part of that.  They bash the FCS constantly, and ironically, they sound like UND hockey fans from 10-15 years ago, when they were comparing hockey and fcs football.  They'd say the FCS was JV, that it wasn't the best competition, nobody cares, no casual interest nationally, etc.  All a pointless argument really.  It's pretty crazy the Fargo media bashes the product that they invest so much time and money in to cover.  Especially when an FBS invite doesn't seem to be coming, and because if NDSU did go FBS, WDAY would lose their TV rights.

    Interesting perspective. Never considered that.

I think NDSU may be looking at an issue similar to what Gopher Hockey faced after the Big Ten was formed.

Just a guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if businesses own a decent chunk of NDSU's tickets that go unused.  The businesses didn't really seem to sell them ever, especially if for a loss.

Fan apathy.  People have "been there & done that", and the band wagon fans aren't interested in watching a team that no longer has the same  hype and excitement around it.  Dom and McFeely and Kolpack trashing FCS on the TV and in print, nearly non stop, can't help at all either.  They are constantly belittling the FCS, similar to how people (justifiably) were crapping all of the Big Ten Hockey conference and how bad it was.  This did and does make winning feel less good, so that reduces how much time and money fans are willing to invest (is return worth the investment)

Fan apathy is a huge problem. The student section on Saturday was abysmal. Matt Larsen definitely has a problem on his hands.
it’s kind of funny, this was the first home game I’ve been to since 2013. Even though the game was pretty boring after halftime I had a blast, but the experience was kind of ‘new’ for me again.

The 10 were from a friend and the season tickets around them but no interest in going.  Had family coming to town Friday night with NDSU ties and just asked around. For him to act like people are lining up to get in the dome is funny at best.

Their student section rivaled ours as far as attendance so it’s not just a UND problem.

I never said anything like that. Just stated what the face value of a ticket to an NDSU football game is.

    Thank you.
I was going "average $22" thinking some of the nosebleeds were going discount.
No matter what, a cool half mill seems opening bid.

I live in Minot so I don’t make many games. Really wasn’t much of a discount on the secondary market. But to your point, it should keep Matt Larsen up at night.

Using 19k as capacity (and throwing out US Bank game) your "20k" guess is off by about 3k (23276).
Throw out an average of $22 a stub and 23276 is over a half million dollars.

    The gate matters.

$55 for sideline seats for SIU. You could probably double your total.

Those in the know:  What has brought on the resurgence in GFRR FB?  Are they getting a good core that's coming up?  Did the move down to AA help?

Are they going to go back up to AAA in a few years if they continue their success?

There's a formula based on playoff wins that can relegate you up a class.  It's why Bismarck St. Mary's is in AAA right now.  I'm sure they'll be back down to AA when the next two-year plan comes out.

Do you know if Walters is looking to transfer?  If he is Sather most definitely should be on the phone ASAP!  He would be a great fit for UND.  I always felt his talent was wasted on UJ.

He’s been quoted as saying he would be open to using his last year of eligibility somewhere else.
