  1. I always thought he was a legacy roster spot in an era when you just can't hide legacy spots in the lineup anymore.

Does Jonathan really have some deep seated grudge against the program?... If so I've never seen that, he always speaks highly of UND and gives respect and reverence for his time there in interviews.

Maybe only the old boys club gets the deranged hate filled letters of seething evil from former players that hold grudges

I asked Schlossman about this earlier this year after he interviewed JT for an article. He said Toews had nothing but great things to say about the program and that he and Troy Murray follow the club through the year and talk about it.

  2. i'm curious as to why the Rough Rider fans don't like Oilers because it's drilled in the western part of the state. well, there aren't any Rough Riders riding horses in the eastern part of the state either. If i'm assuming a Rough Rider is a cowboy-type on a horse herding cattle..... either way i can't stand Rough Riders.

  3. With NYR and PIT going at least 5 game thru Friday I'm guessing Wild game will start no earlier than 8. That should leave just enough time to hit the Black Sheep in St Paul before the game. Voted best pizza in the Metro... by me and my daughter!

Black Sheep and their coal fired pizza is the best imo. i go to the Mpls location once a month at least.

  4. I see Brad Schlossman noted that 6 former Sioux are Captains/Ass't Captains on NHL teams: Toews, Oshie, Greene, Parise, Stafford & Zajac.

That seems like a lot. Do any other college teams even come close to that? What does it say about the coaching staff's ability to develop top players and leaders?

No NCAA titles but 3 Stanley;s.

  5. The Sioux gave them space...a little too conservative if you ask me. I looked...it was about 15 ft. That's how we play in men's league. Big time atheletes are aggresive and don't give you an inch. The Sioux played so well defensively last night....that 10-12 seconds was the only let down I saw personally.

2 def and a backchecker, other UND guys were at UM net, original shot was blocked, and a gift bounce landed on Holl's stick. Pretty hard to find much fault, It's one of those things that happens just as one of the tips on the PP could've gone in. Unfortunately, it was to the hated rival on top of it all. Good to know your mens league team plays that situation better though. ;)

  6. Now I know how Ferris St. felt

    Helluva game.

Hard to accept, but for me it doesn't hurt as much as some have in the past, even though this was MN. This was just a damn good game, and the Sioux really gave MN a better game than I expected. I was very happy with the performance, just shocked to lose it the way it went down. To be honest, this was better, to me, than getting embarrassed like we have at times in the past (BC, for example) or being a better team (higher expectations) but still losing.

In the end, what hurts the worst for me, is the uncertainty of making it this far again. As Schlossman said on the blog (and I was thinking the same thing before reading it) was they could be a better team and not even make it in the future. So here we were in the tournament, beating MN in the 3rd period (maybe not on the scoreboard, but giving them all the game they wanted) and it slipped away. Crap!

Couldn't be prouder of the team, or being a UND fan today.

    As always Dagies, we'll stated.

  7. I have been confused by this for awhile. Let me first say that I too believe Rocco will be back for next year, but after that he's gone. The one thing I have been analyzing are the points his line-mates are getting.

I too find it curious. Rocco is a one-of-a-kind player and i don't mean his height. i mean the angles he takes around the rink, the passes he makes, etc. He's just different than most players the way he moves around the rink, the plays he sees and tries to make. At times it seems he has a really hard time gelling with anyone regardless of who he's skating with. Take the World Junior tourney. He didn't fit like a glove with the other elite players in playing the same game out there. But he did score the critical goals on the biggest stage. I've scratched my head several times over the last couple years when he doesn't convert on a breakaway or a grade-A scoring chance. I guess with the hype coming in, i expect him to pull those off much more often than he does. I do think one more year at this level would benefit him more than going to the AHL. He does seem more comfortable on and off the ice in interviews than when he first arrived. You can never question his effort that's for sure and i'm happy he came here to play hockey.

  8. Maybe but I don't see it even if he has 2 great games. I would think Florida would want to see him develop a greater level of consistency in his game before signing him.

agreed. he's not dominating at the college level yet consistently. i would think they want to see him score more goals before he would move to a higher level against bigger players.
