That's why my hopes are tempered here...he's a classic "tweener"...not big enough to play DE at the D1 level...not sure if he's quick enough to be an every-down MVFC OLB.  If he was coming in as an 18 year old kid I'd be thrilled...but he's got one year.  That's not a developmental signing...it's an impact signing.  I really hope I'm wrong because by all accounts he's a great kid and a college grad...but we need help on D, and I'm not sure we're going to get much here.

while we do need every down help at DE and LB, our biggest need is getting off the field on 3rd down……specifically 3rd and 7 or more   Not going to fix everything all at one time but if the staff can find a way to get one or two guys here that can rush the passer consistently, and improve a little on the back end, the defensive numbers will look better

I agree though, I don’t know enough about this kid to know if he’s that guy

  2. Randle Parker with 2 quality FCS offers and a FBS offer (for those needing to see offers) appears to be a really good signing on the late signing period.

The others certainly have opportunity as safety and LB are huge areas of need.

Learned more info of late. Not good. Doomed program with Bubba as head coach. Need new leadership … and that may extend beyond just football. Hope 2024 goes better than I think it will.

Any details or is this the “I told you so post” for later this year?

that last shot goes in we would be saying what would brooks/mara bring to the table if they got 13 minutes instead of brady's tired stat line.

We’d all be excited because we wouldn’t be peaking too early.  Apparently should have lost today.

    Are we peaking too early??

You want to be playing your best ball in March. Can we sustain this level of play for another month??

Can’t wait to see your response when he loses a couple?

Can’t worry about transfers now , especially the players or your head is in the wrong place

plenty of time for that later

can coaches attend other games to watch players?

Can’t say “I told you so” later on if you enjoy the positive now.

Guys are playing great ball right now.  Looking forward to Saturday.

  7. I could see the Northern St OC based on current staff.

wildcard could be David Schramm from UMary.  Offense wasn’t great but the guy has a resume that is much better than the OC that just left and would have been a better hire if you take names out of it.

Now that the Landry fiasco, hopefully, is in the rear view mirror, who's the next most likely candidate for the OC job at UND? Internal hire, given Schweigert's contract status (and all the speculation of coming changes)? The Bemidji State guy? How about Beschorner, the running backs coach at the AC? Had a good run as OC at UMD. DII assistant coach of the year while OC at Mankato State. Just passed over, apparently, for OC at the AC ...

UND needs to throw the money at someone.  Either Pawluk to get him to stay or bring someone in and Associate Head Coach.  Can’t do the internal promotion if Pawluk and the RB coach leave.  I wouldn’t mind taking a run at Beschorner.

or, they need to go find another coach with UND ties nearing the end of his career and pay him.  Thinking someone like a Randy Hedberg.  I know that not ideal but this can’t be a Sam King promotion.

A tank of a season next year will cost more in lost revenue dollars than paying a coach.

He didn’t stab anyone in the back. Spring ball hasn’t started, and he doesn’t owe anyone here anything. If this season goes poorly I sure hope he doesn’t get blamed, that would be a pretty convenient excuse. As another poster said, I think UND football leadership needs to take a good look in the mirror if they are looking for problems.

I don’t think he gets any blame but I certainly don’t give him a free pass. Lack of character.  He will fit in well with Tim P

The NDSU job was not open when he took the UND job. Tyler Roehl didn't leave NDSU until this week. I am guessing he meant what he said when he was excited to come back to UND and that he had no intentions of going elsewhere. But things can change very quickly these days in regards to new opportunities. What is the statute of limitations on giving someone your "word"? If a better opportunity comes up at any time, whether it be your first day or 2 years into a job, a person can't be blamed for wanting to explore it, whether that be a student-athlete, a coach, or any person in the community in their normal occupation.

If you think Roehl just “took” the job at Tennessee St. out of the blue, not sure what to tell you.

this one is on Landry.  Lack of character.

  11. No comments about a coach making a lateral move to an FCS school??

Timing is interesting that he waited until after the 30 day transfer portal window.   Just had the article in the paper about how tight him and Tim P. were.

I’ve spent too much time talking about coaches. Time for some player talk.

Which Red Shirts make the biggest impact next year?

Are any true frosh going to have the RS lifted?

Why was Rucker’s RS lifted? Played well but not a true difference maker. IMO

To answer your last question, he played about as well as one could expect.  Best fit we had at that position.  Needs to get a lot better and it likely starts with his experience.

Also, it's gotta be tough if you're an OC when the head coach doesn't want to retire, and you want, and are ready, to be head coach for the same team.  Danny being successful would have increased the likelihood of a Bubba extension, blocking his path to the head coaching job.  A dilemma.

    Risk vs reward

Does SDSU success give him a better path?  If the offense is successful and you’re not the OC, what’s your next step?  Another OC job??

If a new OC comes in next year and averages 30 ppg, what’s the perception of this years offense.  If a new OC can retain the talent in place having a successful year is not out of the question.

Again, take the names out of it, if the next HC is a position coach from an FCS school I can about imagine the posts on here.

Umm … to pull a Saban you have to have first formed a perennial powerhouse and won numerous championships … Bubba is nearly the polar opposite. So no “pulling a Saban” happening anytime soon. UND ain’t going to attract anyone external worthwhile at OC. 2024 is lost. 2025 can be saved though with termination and then subsequent thoughtful external hiring.

I meant pulling a Saban from the standpoint of retiring because the world of college sports has passed you by.

You will rip on any coach UND gets though.  You viewed Danny as a D2 coach during this season and now it’s suddenly a terrible thing he is leaving.  Pretty funny actually.

Kelly Howe's (UNDFootball360) logic makes more sense by the minute: "Bubba’s contract status. Tough to be hanging around when a coach is nearing the end of his contract with no guarantee of an extension in sight. Bubba has two years left, which in the football terms means he has one year left."

What outsider wants to come in and put themselves at risk of being gone in possibly ten months if Bubba retires.

Again, a coach that can see some really good offensive talent and is confident enough he can average 30+ pts per game like Danny did.

On this board I have seen anywhere from 4-9 wins predicted for next year, mostly because of questions on defense.  If a coach comes in, the team wins 9 and Bubba pulls a Saban and hangs it up someone has positioned themself pretty well.

If we are going to play the movement for Danny is a good thing, there is another coach out there looking for the same opportunity.

  17. When the time comes to select a new head coach, I hope a QB coach at an FCS school isn’t the choice.

If you want to keep it in the UND tree there are other guys that have actually been part of the building of successful programs.

Who knows if those players will be here come fall...My guess is at least 3 skilled offensive players will be gone.

A new OC will have spring ball to “recruit” his offensive players to stay and sell his system to them.

agreed but...depending on who we lose in april. (or gain/add).......the cupboard isn't totally bare. if he comes here and we do well maybe he gets what danny didn't want to wait for

    This^^^^

An up and coming coach with some balls and confidence will take this job.  Three weeks ago this board was on board with the offense being the strength of this team. Nothing changed but the coach.  Two really good QBs, really good young RBs, one of the best WRs in FCS and a well above average OL.  Not a bad start for someone with a pair to prove it and the desire to move up.

He was good here. No one else on current staff unfortunately was or is, though, so losing him to on a lateral move to a conference peer is awful.

I actually don’t hate the Pawlak idea if it’s going to be internal.  The guy has been equally if not more impressive than Danny in building and developing his position.

Who knows about external.  Plenty of position guys that could be looking for an opportunity, similar to Danny.
