Really, then you haven't been listening to Brad Berry. He's "NOT" satisfied with the results of the last season. He was on the next Tuesday with Tim Hennesey after the season was over, and said as much.

Being not satisfied and making the necessary changes are two different things.  Did he happened to answer where the hell the team was during the first 10 minutes of the third?

But to be honest, the way they were playing when they got those points wasn't conducive to winning the championship they did.  They were horrible defensively early in the year, including our big comeback against them.  They only scored 8 goals in 4 games in the national tournament, but they shut down the opposition pretty well, with the help of insane goaltending.

I still think we could use a high end offensive defenseman like the younger Buium, but I really like that we appear to have defensemen that can play that shutdown game.  We just need to make sure we are doing that at the right time of year, as if we would have brought the same mentality we had against Denver the series in Grand Forks, we wouldn't be having the same conversation we have had for the past several seasons.

The million dollar question is where did that mentality go and why couldn't we build on it after a great series?  The big concern is that it happens year after year.

u missed my point.......when was the last time und had a defensive guy/crew that opposing cake eaters are / wree afraid of?

maybe like others have said...are we the new cake eaters?

I know that the physical game is less now because of different reffing.  However, in my opinion being a cake eater also includes the mental part of the game.  Do you come to play and play hard in big games?  Not showing up for the first 10 minutes of the third in a regional game with a lead is cake eating in the first degree.  Also winning one regional game since 2016 is the frosting on the cake.

  4. I really think many people have a different understanding of how hocky "luck" happens.  You know, that odd bounce, that off someone's skate, or that puck that ends up where no one could predict.  If you play in your opponents end, put pucks on net, have men in front of the net or are just plain aggressive there is a much better chance that an odd bounce will happen.  The better you play the higher the odds of "luck".  Teams that are not in their end that much or don't put many shots on goal have a much lesser chance of the odd bounce.  Some teams put themselves in position for luck by being relentless.

So the Ralph is where players go to become cake eaters?

Well, when a team doesn't show up for the first 10 minutes of the third in a regional game in which they had the lead I don't know what else to call it.

And replace him with who? I hang up and listen.

You don't think that we would get many qualified applicants?   Many coaches would love to have our budget, fanbase, and facilities.  A big problem is that we don't see anything changing - just culture, culture, culture.  Case in point - we have a top notch goalie coach yet we are on our 4th portal goalie.  Meanwhile in Denver they had a goalie who developed in their system lead them to a championship.  And I know we have a high school goalie in the system.

Of course it helps if you recruit goaltenders like Chrona and Davis that have potential to play lights out for 4 games.

But hey - we have the portal for goalies

You have to be so wildly lucky to win this tourney. Riding a 98 save percentage and winning 3 out of 4 by 1 goal is crazy to think about.

By lucky you must mean "show up for the 3rd period" - so according to this thread Denver is the luckiest team ever and we are the unluckiest.  Nonsense

    What culture does Berry dislike?

Not sure because Mr. Flameout 2024 isn't saying much.  I like a culture that shows up for big games - not one who takes 10 minutes off in the third of a playoff game.  Hard to say with Berry (who mentions culture every time he has a chance to) - time to look at some cultures that show up in the playoffs.

Do we get to hang a banner for taking 3 of 4 from Denver this year

Once again Denver gets it done while we sit and watch - with a team that could beat them.  We hear nothing from our hockey program but Bubbs needs to seriously figure it out and get it done.  Are their any changes made?

I was just more making an observation of BC. Not sure anyone from our regional could’ve beaten BC last night.

Unless BC didn't come out for the first 10 minutes of the 3rd - then anything can happen.

Sandelin sold his lucky charm to Carle. 3 OT wins in 5 playoff games this year.

So in summary - Denver is the luckiest team ever and we are the unluckiest.  Perhaps there might be another reason why one team comes to play in the post season and the other is one and done.

The same folks complaining now did the same for Hak.  He apparently couldn’t win the big game and needed to go.

I don't think it's too much to expect our program to win some regional games and get to the Frozen Four regularly - Apparently on this board that is too high an expectation.  Frustrations were for Hak were that he needed to win to win a Natty - frustrations for Bubs are that he needs to win a regional game.  Sad.

If your expectation is natty or bust you’re in for more pain than joy no matter who your team is.

How about if your expectation is to win some games in the regional and put yourself in position to win a natty instead of flaming out in the first round - or even making the tournament?

Respectfully disagree (in part), but it’s cool that we have both sides of the debate here.

If we were to talk to the other teams fans or coaches in all those same games, or take off our green-tinted glasses, they’d point out their own bad luck/bounces and be just as right (several waived off goals, their own key injuries, things that came to light after the season ended, TWO empty netters to tie it, UND having home ice and/or crowd advantage, talent, facilities, resources, all the bad calls or breaks other end that we didn’t notice because that’s how sports go, etc.). Cherry picking the things that weren’t perfect for UND and connecting that to defend the ongoing string of losses can mostly be chalked up to we were unlucky a lot continues to imply these things are just happening to one team. They happen on both sides, but are now a TREND for UND, not a bad luck bounce. I can almost guarantee Berry and the staff aren’t sitting around moaning about 8 years of bad bounces that always go against them (and if they are, count me in the fire Berry crowd).

Michigan came out FLAT. UND had an incredible opportunity to capitalize for a big chunk of that game, against a team that even when they’re not flat, aren’t a world-beater by any stretch. And in my book, had the easiest 1 seed to go through this year, despite blowing the end of the season and a home crowd and #1 seed that were almost guarantees at one point. But they managed again to find a way to lose, instead of win. UMD, Notre Dame, etc. as have been pointed out…we had more than our share of breaks. BU? Well, that one just flat out sucked and UND was as close to deserving a win in a game they lost there as I’ve seen. Would have been the best game/crowd atmosphere I’d ever been to if a bounce went the other way, and I’m onboard with that just being an unlucky one. BU would argue playing in Fargo in front of a packed and RABID UND fan base when they were the higher seed was pretty unlucky I bet, and no doubt influenced their play.

I’m not sure what the answer is here, but do believe the coaching staff has to figure something out vs “have better luck next year”. And I’m also pretty sure (and hope) they would say the same thing.

Exactly - we just aren't getting it done.  According to many posters we are the most unlucky team in the division and Denver is the luckiest.  I think there is more behind this.  Coaches need to figure it out real soon.

I think you're underselling UND's recruiting.  This will be the third outstanding class in a row, with this year in the top handful in the country.

Yes - some talent coming in - but why did we have to replace our entire defense this year and why are we on our 4th portal goalie?  Our recruiting is inconsistent.

It maybe unscientific but with that many responding basically from the region it does show there is majority of people that support and appreciate what Bubba has done for UND football.  I think majority understand that UND rebuild is long term because of funding support and for us to gain reputation of being top FCS program to gain in recruiting battles to come to get top talent to compete.

This has been shown by alumni and fans in recent and current facilities improvements to help in this goal of getting more top recruits. The next step is funding program that players are equal in support and enmities that other programs they’re competing against. I think people trust Bubba on these things because he is invested In North Dakota and not for his own personal gain to just move on with short term success but build legacy here at North Dakota. I know many here don’t understand this but this is how many things have been built here in North Dakota.

This is Bubba's 11th season here (after a 22-21 career at Duluth.  When you say "long term" you must mean many decades.  We know exactly what Bubba can and will do - if the majority of people are happy with where we are at that is a problem.  And as for people "from the region" it used to be pretty well split between Sioux and Bison fans - now not so much.  There is no demand for excellence from our administration and now perhaps many fans.  This is sad.  Me might as well get used to being a slightly over .500 team because that is what we will get with Bubba - and sadly next year .500 seems a reach.  Our rivals would never put up with this - why should we?

Heil has made a rapid turn around going from SF to the US NTDP this season. And Karl worked with hiim at an international tourney. I trust KG to be the goalie whisperer.

I see Hobie and Heil as the 2025-26 tandem.

I respect KG's coaching skills - but why are we on our 4th portal goalie?
