  1. well get him some tissues then, seriously what a f'n joke if that has a reason for leaving or even a part of it. i dont buy it at all. i want him to return as well but hate seeing that crap. if he leaves it will be his and otawas decision to develop in the AHL rather than g forks, not because of "no love" our d core would be amazing if he came back but if he decides to leave which im guessing he will then its time to move on

I wasn't talking at all about him getting bashed, I just meant that it would be great to have him on the blueline next year. Toews departure would/will leave a large hole, and Lee leaving will weaken the defensive core.

  2. I was extremely confident in JT's return prior to him being named to team Canada. After his performance I thought he was gone for sure. Being that it seems that a decision still has not been made I still am holding out a sliver of hope. It's not like there will be intense negotiations. I assume the Blackhawks have already said, "Here's the max we can offer under the new CBA, please sign here." It's not like the Blackhawks can really sweeten the deal anymore. That he hasn't signed yet, in my opinion, is confirmation that he is at a minimum weighing his options.

You couldn't wipe the smile off my face for a week when the others announced they were staying. I can't imagine the crowd when the team comes out of the tunnel for the first game next year if JT is with them. If the whole crew returns for next year I propose that the entire crowd stands and applauds the entire first period of the first game in appreciations.

As an aside, Lee isn't getting the love here, but it would be great to have the entire group return.

  3. I'd take Irmen's git over ry ry any day of the week. Ry ry can flat out shoot the puck but doesn't create that much on his own. It'll be tough for him to hang in the NHL, similar to Bo in my opinion. Bo and Ry Ry aren't going to be 3rd line guys and they are very boardline 2nd line NHL players. If they are with top set-up guys they can score but there aren't grinders or checking line players.

Stafford has, in my opinion, the most skill or the mentioned players. And Zajac can definitely play on the 2nd through 4th lines.

Points aren't the only indicator. This past year I'd take Toews or Oshie over Duncan.

  4. My guess is the reason we haven't seen a decision yet from Toews is that he could be waiting for Chicago to offer the max (or make their final offer). If the final offer isn't the max, he'll be back. If Chicago offers the max, Toews will leave. Until Chicago comes to a decision on what the final offer will be, the fans will be left in limbo and currently they are in no hurry to make any final offers since it's too early in the process. Both sides, I'm guessing, are trying to feel each other out in their negotiations at this time.

The ultimate deciding factor won't be whether he wants another year of education, wants to be with his friends and teammates for another year, wants to improve his skills for another year, etc. Instead, it will come down to money.

The same can be said for Gologoski with the Penguins and Okposo with the Islanders. Once they offer what each feels he should get, he'll leave...otherwise he will be back.

All three feel they can play in the NHL so that's not an issue. None of the three are going to settle on an amount lower than they feel they are worth. Rather, they would come back to college and increase their bargaining position next year with another good college year.

I doubt that there is a whole lot of contract talks while he's playing in the World's. It was a surprise that he made the team and I'd image it is a surprise that he is doing so well. I see no way that the Blackhawks don't offer the max. He is the third overall and developing well. I can't see them offering 750K opposed to the 850K. It would make no sense. Prior to this tourny I was optimistic about his return, but by all appearances he is more than ready for the next level. He could lead TEAM CANADA in points for the tourny. Canada's leading point scorer on a team of professionals does not go back to school.

  5. I remember one commentator saying that he differentiates the players that stake toward their teammates after scoring a goal from those that skate away from their teammates. Kind of a team vs. selfish attitude. Zach always goes directly to his teammates. Since I heard the topic discussed I noticed one ex-Sioux that, not surprisingly, generally does the exact opposite.

  6. everyone has very reliable source....

I agree and that's why I don't usually post hearsay... I'd absolutely trust this guy over anything Hak or Toews would say publicly. Take it for what it's worth, but my hopes are much higher for Toews return.

  7. I heard from a very reliable inner circle source that while Toews has not fully committed, he anticipates returning. I'd say that the coaching staff is "cautiously optimistic." Obviously things can change and I won't believe it until I see him on the ice, but my hopes have increased dramatically. Also, as expected, one of the D-men is likely gone.

  8. For best checking line it has to be Henderson-Ulmer-Calder. If I remember correctly they finished the season going like 14 games with holding the oppositions top line scoreless even strength. And having Calder following and talking trash to goldie before the start of the overtime at the final five was classic. They were lights out.

How about top five man powerplay unit. - Joyce - Hrkac - Johnson - Kidd - Benson/Parent

    - Bo - Parise - Stafford - Fuher - ?

    DOT + Chorney - Lee/Bina

    Skyes - Murray - Eades - Patrick - Ludwig

  9. If I had the choice I'd take a high draft pick over a late round or undrafted player any day. How many solid NHL players that played college hockey weren't exceptional college players? Not many compared to the number of solid college players that don't pan out in the NHL. If a kid has the talent and ability to be a potential NHL mainstay there is no reason to believe they won't excel at the college game.

Just because a player isn't drafted doesn't mean they can't succeed in the college game, but highly drafted/rated players are on the average far superior to their undrafted counterparts. Obviously college teams aren't composed on all highly drafted players, so the others are extremely critical in rounding out the squad.

  10. It's hard to say how his game will translate to the professional game. Someone like Panzer would have had to be a top 2 line guy in the NHL which is not easy. Porter, who I believe is the fastest skater on the team, could potentially be a 3-4 line guy with grit, enough speed, and defensive presence in the NHL. He wouldn't be asked to put up big numbers but to fill a roll.

My guess would be a career AHL player, but time will tell.

  11. If you just go and plead guity it is up to the judge what the sentance will be. If you plead not guilty, either in person or by waiver, you can work out a written plea agreement and not have to go back to Court. You also are certain that the judge won't pull something weird and sentence something unusual.

  12. The Defendant always pleads not guilty when represented by an attorney. This allows the prosecutor and the attorney to work out a plea agreement to take any uncertainty out of the sentencing. It also allows the defense to get the police report and statements to see what evidence the State would use in the prosecution.

  13. That DS bit doesn't make sense. A longer leash... last time I checked there weren't any ramifications when the typical non-athlete student gets a B misdemeanor. I wasn't at all optomistic about either Oshie or Toews coming back next year, but I think this seals the deal. Their own newspaper calling them out for something that 95% of the paper's target audience has done. Someone should dig into the editor's past and expose them for underaged drinking. Beyond reporting the facts of this "story" this is completely uncalled for.

  14. No disrespect to our guys, but based on this season Goligoski should be Hobey.

Goligoski may be the top d-man, but I doubt hobey worthy. Chorney's WCHA numbers are about the same.

    Bina - no chance

Duncan - solid numbers, but does anyone feel he is the most valuable player on this team? If I were to pick the player that we could least afford to lose I would put Duncan, at best, at fourth. All our legitimate hobey candidates in the past were the guy I would least want out with an injury.

  15. Canady and Mason were not top line guys. They were role players that played hard, but I wouldn't consider them overly skilled players at the college leave.

The goal tending this is difficult to gauge. I didn't agree with the goalie change, but if the SIoux have a strong third period it may have given Lammy confidence as the #1 guy for the stretch run. Unfortunately that didn't happen. I can't see Walski getting a shot strictly because of the psychological effect that would have on the other two and the team. It would be having the coach confirm to the other two tenders that the staff has no confidence in them. Personally I hope that Greco gets a shot to be the #1 and get some good experience for the future.

I think our talent level, and the talent level of the freshmen are not to the level of recent Sioux teams, and are very middle of the pack in the WCHA. I guess we are just spoiled.

  16. The thing that scares me is that I haven't seen development of players under Hakstol. That said, we are not winning the offense, defense, or with goaltending battling each games. We're not scoring enough to give any margin for error. The D-men are not clearing the front of the net. In the last 4 games if the teams switch goaltenders I think the Sioux win all 4.

I'm sick of hearing how talented the offense is. We have 2 above average forwards, Oshie and Toews, one who is on his way, Miller, and one who doesn't create much but can find the back of the net when set up, Duncan. Beyond that, who can you see beating a defenseman one-on-one with a sweet move.

Say it's early all you want, but you either have moves and hockey sense or you don't. Players get stronger and more confident, but you don't learn how to shake and bake a defenseman.

I don't know what the answer is, but I am seriously concerned about the status of the team, and even more concerned for next year when Toews and Oshie are gone.

  17. I have to guess that he is practicing with the team and that usually given some indication of how he would fit in. I remember that many players said that Blake and Goren were the best players on the team while they were sitting out a year.

  18. I didn't see it, but I heard that he was on between periods last weekend with Sweeney. Supposedly he appeared a bit frustrated with the Columbus situation and seemed to regret the decision to leave UND and the college scene. Anyone see this interview?
