  1. Welcome to the arguments faced by the U of Hawaii Warriors.

Thanks for making the point.

    Um, no?

Who has Hawaii played that's any good? No one. Maybe Boise St., but they haven't played any strong, big conference teams. The Patriots have beat the next two best teams in the NFL on the road, and play two other very good teams to end the year. Doesn't sound anything like an easy schedule to me.

  2. Miami, the Jets, and Buffalo are really bad, a combined 9-27.

That's a bad division. Anyone else in there has an inflated record.

If Super Bowl teams were picked like the BCS, the New England Patriots would not be allowed to play for the top prize.

The Patriots beat the Cowboys and Colts, and play the Steelers and Giants. Those teams have a combined 10 losses, so I guess the Patriots probably would be in. Thanks for trying, though.

  3. Yea I feel bad for the kid. He is being compared to other great goalies from recent years and it isn't fair. He definitely isn't in the same league as a Moreland or a Diechert and I think everyone knows that.

You wanna talk about not in the same league...yet you throw deichert in there with moreland...weird

  4. No Hunter; no Santana; no Nathan.

I swear I've seen this movie before. I think it starred Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, and Corbin Bernsen. And I seem to recall Rene Russo and Wesley Snipes.

Yeah, they're just giving these guys away, not getting any value for them. By letting Hunter sign with the Angels, the Twins now have two first round draft picks, and the first pick after the first round (sandwich pick). If Santana and Nathan are traded, the Twins will get back four to five players who will have very inexpensive contracts and very high upside. The Twins can keep the guys they have this year and try to make a run in an extremely difficult division, or have a little downswing and be very good in two years, and three years when the new stadium opens. I'll take option B.

  5. I guess what I am saying is why do they have to guarantee anyone anything?

The current system doesn't guarantee anything to anyone the way it is.

Correct me if I am wrong, but in IAA (FPS) postseason play conferences championships mean little. It is the top rated teams (some sort of poll - no real autobids) that get into the playoffs?

Why does there have to be this notion of "autobids." Because like you said earlier, a strong team could just transfer to that weak "autobid" conference and make the playoffs every year. (NSIC :) )

I think conferences are/should be just schedule alliances which gives its top member "bragging" / title rights: Conference Champs.

The current system guarantees BCS Bowl births to each of the six conference champions.

What this really comes down to is money, and if a playoff wouldn't take any money away from anybody, I would assume they would agree to try it out.

  6. Does WVU or Hawaii have a chance at a National Championship right now? No. As it sits right now nothing would change for them. Except a possibility of a greater chance to win a championship down the road.

I would gladly tell the Big East commissioner they suck. They indeed already have agreed to the system (the BCS). Like "sioooux" said same formula except top 8 teams play for a national title instead of 2.

Sure there will still be controversy. You can almost never totally eliminate controvery. The key is there will be far less controversy.

*as Sicakota saids "Show me the money" or the more boring version "follow the money" :):

I think you could still have each game named some sort of "bowl game." I don't believe you would actually be losing money anywhere. The other crappy teams can still play in their useless "we won this bowl" bowlgame. The money would come from all the talk and excitement of the upsets and the possibly of more games = $$$$.

For this to happen, all conferences would have to agree on having conference championships. Won't happen. Couldn't they just throw out conferences altogether? If one of the six major conferences conference champion doesn't get a bid, what meaning would being a conference champion have?

I see what you're saying, but if they ever go to an eight-team tournament they will need to guarantee six automatic bids.

  7. IF the Vikes could run the string and win every game they could make the playoffs as a 10-6 team

I also think they could make the playoffs as a 9-7 team.

Their schedule isn't that tough either, but the Bears and Washington could give them fits.

I don't know, I am torn and I am not a Jackson fan but Jackson actually looks decent enough right now to not be moving on,

which is scarey because it could mean the Vikes could be stuck with him for some time. What happens if these long bombs start

    connecting.

Arizona and Minnesota have the easiest remaining schedules in the NFL. Interestingly, these teams are tied for the last playoff spot, along with Detroi, in the NFC. It will be fun to see how it all plays out.

  8. its okay, soohockey15 is just mad that he never really got to play sports in highschool! he was always picked after the kid with boogers hanging out of his nose! :)

Wow, that's so funny. You hit it right on the nose.

  9. anyone other than me remember that the Vikings beat the Giants 41-17 last week? and returned 4 INTs for TD? just wondering

The way Eli played last week, the Sioux would've had 4 int.

  10. Vikings are a dangerous football team right now. 9-7 and a wildcard is a possibility. They are running the ball at will against everybody.

Does anyone other than me remember that the Vikings lost to the Packers 34-0 a few weeks ago?

  11. If it is called Div 1 and you have to play a Div 1 schedule to quailify, should not Hawaii be #1 and now playing for a National Championship....?

The BCS apears to be a joke, nothing more than a "POPULARITY CONTEST" for the biggest, not maybe the best college football has to offer. If the last couple of years have proven anything, anyone can beat anyone.

The great thing about the rest of college football, NAIA, Div 3, Div 2, 1AA (FCS) they all have a true National Champion!

When will we see a playoff....?

I think that there are probably 10 better teams than Hawaii in college football. What's to stop Florida or USC from moving to a weak conference, playing a weak schedule and playing in the national championship game every year? Even if there was a playoff this year, can you pick out the best 4 or 8 teams in the country? There would be just as much controversy with a playoff as there is with a BCS system.

  12. I am sure Pat is a great kid. I sure as heck don't see why everyone thinks he is so great, he has a decent team in front of him. From your reaction I would say your a Red River fan. Mark my word Central Hockey is going to be improved this year and will win more games than last season and be much tougher to beat, no more easy two points. Central also has a great young goalie that will be ready to take the reigns when the senior stumbles.

What the heck happened to him. Wow, good start to the season. 1 Pat Arnason Sr. Saver %0.67 2 6 4 GAA 3.00 66.7 [1 - 0 - 0 ] 14 shots and he let in 2 goals.... Hum...

Yep, after those stats (one game) i'd phone it in on him. His neck must be burnt from that red light. He didn't have the best stats BY FAR in the state last year did he? O wait, he did. And shut up with your cenral stuff...just shut up

  13. SKATE 'EM 'TILL THEY CAN'T EAT SUPPER!! :D

Or get your powerplay to be SOMEWHAT effective, work on the kill to make your guys do it right, not run around and get out of position. And lastly, its time to switch line combo's tonight because they don't have much to lose. BTW, half the forwards on that team are afraid to block shots. The penalty kill should be EXTREMELY easy if done right. Stick is always on the ice, and stay in the shooting lanes. If your doing your job, a d-man should NEVER get a shot to the net.

  14. I am surprised no has started the Arneson is god thread yet?

Wow, you really dislike Pat Arnason. But I'm sure its normal for 40 year old guys like you to hold a grudge against a high school kid...sweeeeeeeeeeeet.

Also, pretty impressive grammar skills after what I assume was a long night of becoming overly intoxicated while building up your hatred for a high school kid.
