Huh? What first rounder should Carolina trade him for?
No, I get the impression you’re disappointed that we didn’t have a 1st rounder like some other teams did. But we did have Jackson Blake. Blake went in the 4th round as the 109th pick so I’m wondering if you would have rather had 1st rounder Snuggerud or some other college 1st rounder instead of Blake?

Wish we had a first round forward. Who was our last: Jost?
Jackson Blake wasn’t a 1st rounder but I’m curious which of the 1st rounders you would have traded for him?

Finally some body in NCAA has some balls. Keep transgenders out of women's sports or abandon title IX.
This is the NAIA that voted to ban trans athletes in women’s sports. I don’t think the NCAA changed its policy today, did they??

How accurate is this? No BC, No BU, No DU and Minny 10th.
The only way some of you would believe the accuracy of this chart is if UND was ranked #11.
It’s always the same group of 3 posters — fire Hakstol, fire Berry.

Fall 2022 (NDSU): 12,242. Fall 2023: 11,952. Down 290. Yikes. And under 12k.
This puts them back to 2003-ish numbers, ... two lost decades.
https://www.ndsu.edu/data/enrollment/annual/Is there a similar chart for UND? It would be interesting to compare the numbers from about 2010 to 2023.

Cook (current NDSU) has some significant issues to take on, foremost being budget shortfalls and declining enrollment. Additionally his predecessor (Bresciani) was against on-line classes so that area is presently a weakness also.
I was thinking that Bresciani was still there. How long has Cook been there? Is he more likable than his predecessor or the Snake oil salesman?

Chapman was never gracious to UND nor any other N. Dak institutions of higher Ed. He isolated himself from the other presidents frequently. Had trouble with being trustworthy.
Exactly, he was a jerk and now they’re seeing the results of the direction he and the current president have taken NDSU.
-
If I remember correctly, NDSU was really low key a few years ago when they were projecting 20,000 students and UND’s enrollment was going down. Chapman and the current president have always been very gracious towards UND so it’s only right that UND would return that graciousness.

Nobody here is an Oshie, Boeser, Toews, Parise, Bochenski, Frattin, Sanderson. Guys like that can lift a team. Boeser was the last guy to really do it, and he was a freshman (hurt sophomore year). Berry hasn’t recruited that top end talent that we’ve been accustomed to, and it’s showing.
You obviously have a very keen eye for evaluating and grading high end hockey talent. For those of us who don’t have that skill could you detail the shortcomings of Swanson, Strathmann, Livanavage and Perron?

That's #12 on that team.
That screaming "ready for the NCHC" to anyone?
A year in the USHL (for a currently 17 year old) was a prudent request.
Exactly, this kid is not a 17 y/o Jonathan Toews. We’ll see where he ends up and what kind of numbers he puts up. I’m guessing it won’t be numbers that jump out at you. He needs another year of juniors before he’ll make any sort of impact in the NCHC.

Absolutely great news. One of the things that Geno, Blaiser and Hak all mention is that it is their responsibility as the UND hockey coach to maintain and improve the program. Brad Berry is doing that.

I’m not sure what your definition of too often is but I’d say we’re on the right side of those battles more often than just about every other program.

Brock Nelson got a hat trick tonight, then added an empty net goal for his 4th. 6 goals for the year.
Zach Parise got his first 2 points with the Islanders with 2 assists tonight, the second on Brocks 4th goal.
Talked to both of them on Broadway in Nashville last Friday.

Well, then The Sicatoka should have been in the ref's ear when he gave Penn State a 2 man advantage on a bogus call.

Anyone know if Chaves went to Nashville?
If he was he kept a very low profile. We talked to Andy Armacost and the First Lady several times along Broadway. But I don’t remember seeing Chaves at any of the events or walking downtown.
Even your buddy, Phil Harmeson. Disappointed that there were no Sicatonka sightings though. ☹️

There are a lot of decisions to make in assembling a team, older or younger, super-talents or late bloomers, MN or Canada, but the proof is ultimately in the pudding. UND finished the last two seasons #1 in the PWR, and likely the top seed in the NCAA tournament both years. They must be doing something right. Also important is how you make up for recruiting misses, and adjusting to things like unexpected departures. A few years ago when Jost left surprisingly, they missed the tournament by one game (flip a loss to a tie or a tie to a win). This year, rebuilding from important departures was aided by the transfer portal, but there's again a surprise hole at 1C. We'll have to see if they can overcome it.
Back to recruiting, we don't even really know, with a few exceptions, who they were after or offered. It sounds like they wanted Chesley and missed, then they went and got Livanavage and Strathmann, who sound like top guys also. As for MN kids, and metro kids in particular, when has UND had much luck with them ever, in the absence of a real inside connection? The top guys off the top of my head to choose UND outright over MN were Parise and Boeser. Parise wanted to be the best, and Herb Brooks sent him on his way. Boeser was deciding as the weight of Lucia's anchor dragged that program down. Unless the kid's dad is a former UND All-American, I'm never surprised when a metro kid picks MN. UND has gotten other great players from MN, like Mark Senden currently. I don't think MN was after him very hard, even though he's exactly what that program needs. As for his importance, how crucial could he have been in the 5OT game last year?
I love the way jk can bring in a few facts to a conversation to counter the negatives. Also, very good analysis of what it takes to build a championship team.
