  1. I don't know...Donny Lucia-pet has gone on record that the 3rd place games means nothing and his team has performed accordingly the past few years...

Fact check: Gophers have played in the Final 5 championship game the last 2 seasons. And really, the 3rd place game the previous 2 years didn't mean anything for them, as the #1 seed was locked up. Too bad that type of "means nothing" play carried into Regionals.

  2. We've been staying there since it started in St. Paul - it's a great place to stay. It's a little far from the X, but you can pay $10 per person for a weekend shuttle pass to get to and from the X. They run shuttles between games, too, which makes it handy for getting back in time for the free drinks during the manager's reception!

We've stayed at a few different hotels, and I think the Embassy Suites is the best option. The full breakfast is a bonus. The shuttle service makes the distance, not a big deal. I've walked it too. You can also make a stop at Alary's and catch their free shuttle (i think it's still free) and have a beverage. That's usually my plan.

  3. If you were paying attention to the game, Lucia got a penalty for cross-checking a Mankato player pretty hard into the boards after running Kangas in OT. Not something they wanted to do, as the Gophers were very motivated to win the game, not goon it up. Lucia even said it almost cost them and thanked Kangas for bailing him out for those 2 minutes.

Also, Kangas didn't flip-out after getting run into like most goalies would have, he just got up and focused on stopping the puck, not adding drama.

  4. The Goofs should not get the night game all the time it is stupid. I forgot it is home ice for the the Goofs. So they should automatically get the night game regardless of their seeding. Maybe you should check your a#@'es location.

You forgot to mention that the ref's are against UND and are paid by UofM. INCH.com hates the Sioux too. All scams against UND........ ???:glare:

  5. FSNN will not air anything but the goofs if they are playing anywhere but Alaska - that is one of the reasons they are refered to the NY Yankees of NCAA hockey

What do you expect living in St. Paul? I'm sure the Sioux are on local TV in Grand Forks. Move there.

  6. So LC, are you saying that Minnesota has had a difficult schedule? Granted they have played ranked teams but they have had favorable circumstances in when and where they have played them. Colorado at home and playing with the flu bug going through there team. Michigan and Michigan State in the Showcase at home where Mich and Mich State had a rivalry game mid week. Wisconsin at home with key players out of the lineup. Maine at the X which is a virtual home game. Wayne State and Ohio State as non-conference foes...Enough said. So far No UND, No Denver, and no UAA trip which is never easy.

They have put up a nice record so far but we will see how it holds up after the first of the year.

I'm not claiming the Gopher schedule is difficult. It's just not easy cupcake schedule you are saying, thus trying to discredit the 13-1-3 record. Who has a difficult schedule then? UNH's isn't nothing to brag about. I know the 13-1-3 record doesn't sit well with you, but give some credit when deserved. You still made execuses for the Gopher wins, rather then accepting the Gophers have a pretty good record so far. Could easily be a split this weekend in MTU. Maybe even worse, as MTU is playing pretty good.

  7. 7>5 might not be so far off. UNH and Notre Dame have played very well as of late and UNH is probably the best team right now. Notre Dame is kind of in the same boat as Minnesota as they haven't had a difficult schedule but I think their defense/goaltending is probably better than Minnesota. So you could argue that Minnesota, right now, is 3rd best with the caveat that UMN is still the only 1 loss team

Another thing to consider for the rest of the season is what affect the World Jrs will have on Minnesota. Having 5 players taken makes for some interesting possibilities like injuries, freshmen hitting the wall, lineup instability. We will see how good Minnesota's depth is come January.

Gopher schedule has seen games against current #3, #7, #8, #9, and #15 teams in country. Includes games against teams that are 2nd and 3rd in WCHA standings. What is so "not difficult" about that? Things could go sour in the future, but right now 13-1-3 is pretty good. (looks better than 7-6-1)

  8. Have the pools been drawn yet? If the US and Canada are in the same group again, I don't think they will meet in the finals. Beating two straight European teams in Sweden just to get to the finals could be tough for even mighty Canada.

Group A: Canada, USA, Sweden, Slovakia, and Germany

Group B: Russia, Finland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Belarus

Official site: 2007 IIHF World Junior Championships

  9. of course.....and since we should have easily beatin UAA and gotten swept....why couldnt the same thing happen to the Goofs.

Didn't you say that the Gophers had an easy schedule the next few games? :silly: (see page 1) Well, MSU is #6 and Michigan is #7 for this weekends games. Tough games for Goldy this weekend. Not lighting the world on fire with predicting that the Gophers might lose a game (or 2) this weekend with the teams coming to Mariucci. Although, the Gophers seem to match-up well against Michigan since they like to play the same style. MSU might give the Gophers some issues.

  10. Dagies,

See I think there is something to my conspiracy. ;)

I am putting on my Halo (because I don't care, my halo is held up by two horns) Honestly, Minnesota Wisconsin are going to get all the breaks. I personally think the Refs are affraid of Wisconsin and Minnesota, if you think I am all wet, the first clue was when the ref took forever to make the call on the goal that was obviously tipped in with a high stick against C.C. Sheppard took all night to make the call, its like comeon Derek, make the friggen call. I think he was shaking in fear of the repercussions. Adam changing his call in Duluth is another example, if I read it right he changed his mind how many times, make a call and stick with it. I think they are working in fear. The refs are so affraid in fact they dread the thought of the two big schools not in the final Five, so they are going to get the breaks. Its about the money. Seriously... ;)

No ones offered a counter argument. I welcome them if you do have one.

I am not the only one that has been saying I got the idea from TH on the coaches show a few years back, at first I thought he was on crack cocaine but I think there is something to it. So that got me watching the penalties calls more closely. Your right Minnesoda and Wisconsin get the most favorable calls.

On the other hand I think UND has peed off the refs in this league. I think it goes back to the Blais era, when Dean used to lobby the refs to call the game the way it is supposed to be called. I agree let the teams play hockey if your hand comes off the stick it should be a penalty. There are a few teams that would be screwed in this league if they called the game like this.

One last point, think back to a few years ago (it may have been 4-5 years now) Kleven made a bad call a against the Goofers and it cost UoMN a game, at the time I thought it was whinning by the Goofer fans, they disciplined the poor kid if I am not mistaken he isn't even refing games anymore. For all practical purposes Donny had him banished from the league, or at least it made i difficult for him. They would have never done that for Hakstol. I personlly think Nate Freeman is worse that than Kleven was.

It never is shocking when UND fans blame the refs for when the UND "halos" lose, and the Gophers get "gimmie" wins (or ties in this case). :D Poor little UND, not a big ten team to get all the breaks......... :D

  11. hell of a job on the table. my goal in the next couple years will be a superchexx bubble hockey game with sioux/gophers custom players just like the ones at the ralph. those are classic!!

Yeah, I finished the basement last winter, with bar/projector/pub table, and left a perfect spot for a new super chexx game. Should be ordering soon!

  12. Go to Michael's craft store and they have stuff you mix up and pour down, it's like putting down 50 layers of varnish and will not yellow, looks fantastic when done right... Can't remeber the name for the life of me!

I used some stuff on my pub table and bar I got from Home Depot called "Glaze Coat". Sounds the same as the stuff you used from Michael's. Comes in two bottles and you mix and pour on table, then spread around. I think a box was around $20 and it covered 9 sq. ft. It doesn't turn yellow. Tricky part is applying in a place that is dust free and making sure you get all the small bubbles out. Both of mine turned out great! I would post pic, but I don't think any of you would like the pub table with a huge maroon and gold "M" on it.

  13. WCHA Final Fives held at the St Paul Civic Center, Target Center, or XCel Energy Center, typically considered the Golden Gopher backyard, since 1997? Nine. WCHA playoff titles by North Dakota in that time frame? 3 (1997, 2000, 2006). Other title game appearance in that time-frame? 2 (2001, 2005). That's five title game appearances in nine years in the WCHA Final Five and six appearances in ten years if you count the 1998 Final Five at the Bradley Center.

How have the Gophers done during that same time frame, TC_transplant?

Great point. Now can we put the rest the lame "home ice advantage" for the Gophers every year at the Final 5?? :) I don't know why other fans complain, (just to complain about the Gophers I guess) the proof is stated above. Xcel doesn't help the Gophers win. They haven't won a single game in the last 2 Final Fives.

  14. Glad we could amuse you, FIRE HELMET GUY. I went thru some of this thread again and started laughing out loud. Now that Phil's gone, though...

    Alec%20Baldwin-Pete%20Schwetty.jpg

...I wonder if his schwetty Gopher hockey equipment will be for sale soon on Ebay.

This is a great thread!! I just busted out laughing in cubicle land, which wasn't too cool at work. :D I always wonder why so many threads get so serious. :D

The "we moved on" quote from Lucia seemed like it was a relief.

  15. Bull$hit, he did not deserve the award, and was not the best freshman in the country last year, and I don't give a rat's a$$ how many points he scored bucky.

Some voters seemed to disagree with you. Look out, they might hand the award to Johnson next year. Tell us who will be the Sioux freshman who is more deserving next year?

  16. But I have a question is he Kessell staying or is he going to the pros for a year or two before being out of hockey entirely. Just curious.

Where are all these Gopher Dum%asses coming from on this sight. I think they have their own places they can go and talk about their beloved Goofs. The think the Goofs are the best hockey program in the country, but yet we have 7 and they have 5 national titles. So they can go away now and Shut Up about Kessell being the next coming of God. He has one move he is good, but I will take Oshie or Toews anyday over Kessell.

There is just so much Gopher hockey talk on this board..........

  17. They may have stated it too, but I have seen and heard it many places, including at work from a gopher fan.

Of course most of it was before he even played a shift and probably even back to the old gopher hockey website. As soon as he actually started to play, expectations were downplayed.

He was the "next one" according to INCH back in July 04. I thought he was great last year.

  18. I've researched prices online...these things run about $1800 a piece, and that is a low number. Anyone have one in the North Dakota area they are looking to get rid of, even if it needs some work...please let me know!

Where did you get those prices? The best I've found is around $2500 for new ones. Some used ones come up on ebay once-in-awhile. I was going with the custom players too. Not sure if Gophers/Sioux or Gophers/Badgers. Helps my bro is gifted with the paint brush. Will be nice addition for the home bar.

  19. It's too bad that Holy Cross doesn't have a board then you would have another thing to do while were still playing :D (by the way how did that Kessel thing work out for the team this year)

Actually, Holy Cross does have a board. ROTY isn't bad. :D
