Totally agree UND needs to get help with DL/Edge/OLB more than any other positions. But if Fort actually does leave, that leaves Ball and Davis at the safety spots. UND will be in big trouble if those are the two options for next season.

I agree we need safety help. One name to keep an eye on is Tyler Erkman. Will be a redshirt freshman and UNDFootball360 had good things to say about him coming out of high school.

He doesn’t even list himself as a qb on his Twitter. His highlights don’t show much passing. Really hoping he’s not offered as a qb.

From what I have heard it sounds like Starcevic will be a linebacker in college.  Parks will almost definitely be a QB. I went to a few of his games this last year and I think he played less than 10 defensive plays.  You also check Parks' twitter and he has already been to a few college camps as a QB prospect.

I really hope he doesn't choose to go to that cesspool program.

It's pretty common for players to announce offers even after they commit! I wouldn't worry about him leaving.

Great comeback! We all know Danny has been OC for five years. In that time frame Danny has made us a good offense.  (Fringe top 20 overall scoring offense the last two years.) I know you want us to be elite after one year, like USD became this year but that's not how things work. It would be one thing if our previous OC retired or took a job elsewhere, but when the dude was fired it means you needed to build some things back up, which Danny did in his first three years to give us a good offense.  Now that we have a solid base, recruits on that side of the ball our starting to take notice.  You don't get recruits like Kaminski, Tai, Seidl, and others if you aren't doing something right.  Recruiting is one of the most important things to building a team and over Danny's five years our recruiting has made noticeable improvements.  Some of us talk about how many offers a kid has and I made a post a while back, that shows roughly 75% of this last year's freshman class and our incoming class this year all had at least one division 1 offer.  Lastly, I want to touch on the notion that Danny can't coach offense in games against good competition.  Last year we scored 29 against UNI, 48 on Missouri State when they were ranked #7, 35 on the road against YSU, 35 on SDSU!!  This year the games that everyone brings up are Boise, SDSU, UNI and South Dakota.  In the games against Boise, UNI and South Dakota, Tommy had a handful of plays that changed the game not in our favor. Against Boise he fumbles before half. Against UNI he fumbles on the opening drive deep in UNI territory. Against South Dakota he floats up a duck on a deep shot to Quincy that gets picked.  These are all plays that I don't see our next QB making. We also moved the ball in all three of those games, so it wasn't like every drive was a 3 and out.  I understand people are sick of waiting for us to take that next step.  Some on here think our offense has lost it's shine, but to me it is more a product of Bubba not being able to take this team any further and our defense not improving that takes the shine off our program.  Danny unlike Bubba has shown improvement in his time!

One thing I left out with recruiting too.  Look at what has happened with our OL!  Yes, Pawlak is a big part of that, but who do you think was a key part of getting him on staff? We have Waletzko in the NFL. Kilty has some big time FBS offers.  Again, it doesn't happen over night but you give a coach some time to have some success and look what happens.

If you are correct and either of the other two guys are that much better than Tommy, doesn't that bring up a myriad of other problems?  I have gotten really excited about this program a few times over the last half decade only to have some very poor coaching usually bring my excitement to an abrupt halt.

Like what? The guy who looks to be next in line was redshirted so we don't stunt his development? We see the talent we have recruited since our offense has gotten better take off this year as red shirt freshman? Everyone expects a quick fix but considering what he took over to what he has built, recruits are now starting to take notice.

So that is our choices?  Two yards and a cloud of dust through the air or on the ground?  Is that what you are saying?

I am simply saying, Danny is maximizing the QB he has. He isn't perfect, but is far from the problem. Next year when we have a QB who is more confident throwing down the field, let's talk about this 2 yards offense. If you want to can the guy who is the only reason we were a decent team this year, be my guest.

Why are you so enthralled with Danny’s "2 yard pass and a cloud of dust" offense?    It was poor in almost every big game we had this season.

Or maybe you would prefer to hire back Paul Rudolph?

The same offense that scored more points against NDSU than South Dakota did in two games? The same offense that works around the strengths of its QB? We certainly didn't push the ball down field every play, but that's not the strength of our offense. I am glad that "dust" allowed us to be a top scoring offense again this year. (24th in the FCS)

Their offense is not why they are winning this year! Without their defense they are an average team.

I am glad South Dakota's great offense after 1 year showed up to play today... Oh wait it is against NDSU though and apparently we can't count games against them according to some on here.

  10. 2 hours ago, Midwestern Hawk said:

Did you actually watch the offense this fall when it mattered(sans NDSU game)?

Certainly did. And as I have pointed out before, the games where Tommy made a couple of really bad plays our offense didn't score as many points. Hence the we have more talent coming in that can make those plays Tommy didn't more consistently.  I don't care who it is against as long as you are playing D 1 competition, you have a good offense if you are scoring 30+ against most teams. And I will count the NDSU game because why wouldn't I? People saying USD has a better offense in one year than Danny does in 5. Check how many points they put up on them.

They scored 3 against SDSU and 17 against Indiana State. The few games they scored over 30 are against teams we also did and we scored more points on those teams

IMO Tommy was very average.  A good game manager yes.  Tommy looked good against weak opponents. With that said ….the coaching staff stiffened up when competing against stiffer competition.

Danny's dismal play calling against sac st is proof for the coaching staff is way over their heads

Und…with the current players can compete. They destroyed Ndsu.  Ndsu was never in it.  Not even close. I think we all know that was influenced by others ….not this coaching staff.

Coaching is definitely the downfall of und football.  So damn sickening to hear Ndsu football coverage around here. Why can’t und ever compete for a title????  Coaching!!!!!  It is so damn frustrating to watch und fail year after year in this average league.

Will und be better without Tommy ?  Feeney and kaminski have far more raw talent than Tommy but they will be held back by the ineptness of the coaching staff.

I see little change next year even with a more talented qb.

Our offense will be just fine under Danny. Play calls can look bad if not executed. Now in the Sac State game, I would have liked to run the ball to start the 4th, but let's not act like we ran some elaborate trick play. We rolled out Tommy which we do all the time!! The linebacker for Sac State also made a great play not going for the run fake. Our offense still ran for over 200 yards and scored 35. Danny must have competent enough to do something right...

We haven't seen the best of Danny and the offense yet?  Wasn't this his 5th season as OC?  What am I missing here?  What is Danny waiting for?

He has spent 5 years building up a good offense. Now recruits are starting to take notice and if you look at this last years and next year's class on offense we have some serious talent coming in. This talent will take our offense to another level.

agree 100%.. IF you dont think the offense was part of the problem you are giving way to much credit to running up scores against crappy teams

    • against UNI 0 pts
    • First half against Indiana state.. 7pts
    • South Dakota - 3 pts (7 was ko return)

While our Defense was clearly the weakest link.. Our offense was terrible against all decent teams except NDSU.  The frustrating thing is that our offense had the template to win games this year (NDSU game plan) and Danny must have just been too bored with that.

Hopefully 2024 will be a better year.. Im not expecting much in the way of changes in the coaching staff.. hopefully we dont lose the OL coach as he seems to have some talent/recruiting ability.  Somehow the defense has to get better and Im hoping for a change at QB and/or Danny is another year smarter.  I think our Offense has a chance to be even better in 2024.. good OL.. good RB's.. (Ziebarth, Isaiah, Siedl) good WR's (Belquist, plenty of returners, redshirt freshmen (Tai, hakim)).. better QB.

Can't argue with the offensive outputs in the games you mentioned, but Tommy had terrible turnovers in two of those games. And against Indiana State we had a terrible start and still managed to get 30 points in regulation. We haven't seen the best of Danny and his offense yet. With a new QB and plenty of weapons next year, I expect us to see more than we did this year!!

Any insight on why UND has so much trouble getting guys with legit size on the D line? Seems like this conversation has been going on forever.

Are we not targeting the right guys, or not able to add enough weight to some of them? What would you say should be a target size for those guys? 275 DE and 300-310 Nose? I really have not clue what is ideal. Obviously height and frame is a factor too.

Those are pretty ideal in my opinion. In the majority of 3 - 4 defenses your d - line takes up all the blocks so your linebackers can get downhill.  (Not saying you don't have that in a 4 - 3, but it is even more important in a 3 - 4.) Right now our DE's are the size of 4 - 3 ends.

UND has 2 games left vs teams currently ranked higher. Tell me now they go 1-1 and I'd say yes please.

Only one team is ranked higher than us, USD. Illinois State is not above us.

We weren’t. The goal is to keep getting better each week and maybe we can play them again. In the meantime, we need to be better than UNI Saturday.

I like the take but doubt it. UND has good tailgating but SDSU has great tailgating. I was at SU tailgating three years ago and it was bigger than UNDs. UNDs is still run as an afterthought

    Looks like SDSU was mentioned.

reason i mentioned kai is bc someone else mentioned him AND he has played so far AND i wanted to point out that a starting WR has 0 catches thru 6 games

I believe they mentioned. "Tai".  We don't have a "Kai" on our team. :)

Korey Tai and Lance Rucker szn

Rucker has already played in at least 4 games, Drake, Northern Arizona, Boise St, and NDSU.  Can't remember if he did against SDSU or Western Illinois.  My guess is he was probably in late against Western Illinois which would already put him over 4 games already this season.  Korey Tai however is completely different and would be fun to see him play in the playoffs.

Updated as of now. Been a quiet period while college coaches and HS players are focused on their own seasons. In Miller's article on Lotysz, he mentioned that there were 20 commits, but for the life of me I can only find 19. If you see I'm missing somebody, let me know and I'll be sure to correct it!

Mark Bussan, plays O-line.  Not big on social media but UNDFootball360 has him on their recruiting list.
