But that's the issue, the peers get them, UND doesn't. It can't be for lack of trying, right?

Get them?  Get who?  Don’t  they develop them. Who are all the giant NFL bound DL playing at the SU’s?

Kelly talks of reevaluating everything as Roger Thomas did years ago. Player body types, how to recruit and Matt wondered if 4-3 should be considered.

Its always great to be reviewing, evaluating and adapting with everything in life, especially football, but watch the NDSU game again, then watch 2021.  Body type, and base alignment has very little to do with why we are not prevailing against NDSU and SDSU. In fact I think the same case can be made for the spring 2021 game too.  In the last 6 games against the two best teams in FCS during that time period, we are 1-5 and very easily could be 3-3.  IMO it has far more to do with preparation, game planning and in-game coaching and adjustments.  It's the same reason we escape with a close win against an inferior opponent or last years melt-down at Missouri State.  Before you get all bent out of shape think about what I am saying and watch the film again.  Film doesn't lie.

Would his ceiling not be 2016 when we were a seeded team? 9-2 remember is more wins than 7-4.

You are correct.  That season ended with a giant fart at home in the playoffs.

Has it been overlooked just how important Noah Larson was for UND?

Yes, I have been thinking that Noah Larson and Jordan Canady made a ton of tackles over the last several years and we have not been nearly as good stopping the run.

    ^^^  pre-game taught

    Now looking back.

We were extremely flat starting the game.  Lack of concentration through out, mistakes.
Coaches job to get the team mentally prepared to play the game - really failed here.

No doubt, the talent and coaching goes to the Bison, my hats off the them.
But, we should of made it a good close game for the fans - pride for the program.

We did settle down some, but were still playing with butterflies in our gut.
Many many mistakes. Ball didn't bounce our way, everything adds up to a butt kicking.
Sad to say - This staff just doesn't have it for the big games.

The mods need to stop this annual trolling in the Game Thread during the game. This doesn't happen in other threads I've seen in MVFC.

When has this not been the case away from the Alerus in a big game?

I’m not going to call for Bubba’s head after a 7-4 season but I wouldn’t be devastated if he decided to hang it up and get a cozy job in the athletic department.

Bubba is a great man, but I think this season represents his ceiling as a head coach.  The bigger the game, the worse we play.  So many big games and opportunities squandered during his era.  The game yesterday was painful to watch and reminded me of so many other big games during this era.  If the team responds like they did yesterday during the entire year, we likely have 1-2 wins.  There was nothing special about that NDSU team, nor the plays which put the game out of reach, we just weren't ready to play.

The Special teams were bad, can we just kick the ball out of bounds?

The offense was anemic, back to the 4 yard pass on 3rd and 9 and Tommy seemed to be rattled the entire game.  Without the short throw Belquist turned into 63 yards, we averaged about 5 yards per pass attempt and that doesn't include the sacks and scrambles.

The defense was as bad as it has been all year.  Couldn't stop the run at all and made Miller look like he is Lamar Jackson.

We stopped them last year with a 3-4, scheme isn’t necessarily the issue. We are just way too small for what we need to be successful with this scheme.

I thought D would have recovered from personnel losses by now.  It’s ugly.

Oh, c'mon! NDSU has lost regular season games most years during their championship run...they lost to their biggest on-the-field rival last year ... and still won the FCS title. One regular season game won't change anything.

Not 3, and not to their rival.

So, you are saying if NDSU loses, they have no shot at going deep in the playoffs, or winning the natty...again.
OK. The delusion in Grand Forks is real.

Yeah.  That is what I am saying.  We need to win first, but everything changes with a UND win.
