By lucky you must mean "show up for the 3rd period" - so according to this thread Denver is the luckiest team ever and we are the unluckiest.  Nonsense

Every team that wins it is extremely lucky in addition to being obviously very good was my point. People say “ Carle this and Carle that”, which he deserves, but the difference between him and the other coaches he beat had a lot to do with a goaltender that put on one of the best performances any of us have ever seen.

We won a championship game with Coltyn Sanderson and Johnny Simonson playing center. They collectively had 16 goals over the course of eight years on the team.

As was already mentioned, that was a rare team that was so dang good everywhere else that they didn’t seem to need as much depth. Those guys were also playing their best hockey at that time of the year. I just don’t know what to do with Schmaltz was my point. Zero offense and isn’t overly hard to play against. Not great at faceoffs. Could slide him to wing. I just don’t like thought of him centering a 3rd line again.

  3. For all this “culture” talk it sounds like the majority of us went into this game hoping to win (obviously) but expecting to lose. That’s the definition of a losing culture. That’s the reality. Opposite of clutch. Fade away when it matters.

This loss doesn’t hurt as much as some for me. Going into tourney this year I didn’t think we had much of shot at winning it all. To me they just didn’t pass the eye test as a team that could win four straight.

This is how I feel as well but the sad part is a month ago I would say we were a serious title contender. The meltdown happened in the last month. You want to playing your best hockey going into the tournament and they continue to fade away.

I guess I just meant dumb mistakes consistently. Is that different? Drives by the D and tries a fancy drop pass to nobody in particular. Highest percentage of turnovers leading to opposing goals (I would guess) ?

He also has a boat load of points. He’s high risk/high reward. If you ask him to stop taking chances, the points drop off. Let him play. He’ll likely make the hobey hat trick, so maybe find someone else to blame this on?

You may be right, but if the D was subpar to begin with the weaknesses should have manifested earlier than January, you'd think. They were hanging with BU, MN & WI 5 months ago, now they can't even hang their own clothes. Which leads me to think that they may lack the overall talent or character required to elevate their game when the playoffs approach & all teams are bringing their A game. Throw in most of the forwards who look like they're attending a funeral & this is the result.

Like someone mentioned earlier, Persson will probably have to stand on his head & steal the first game of the regionals; & if the guys can somehow squeeze out a W that first day, I think it would jumpstart their confidence in a major way. In the meantime, I feel it's incumbent on the coaching staff to have a come-to-Jesus meeting with the team & the individual players (who are slacking off) to discern what the actual problem is. Have some self-respect, guys.

This problem goes back even further than this year. Look at last year. We were supposed to have a strong d-corps and they somehow all regressed to the point where they were awful.

i also look at a guy like Gaber. Nobody could work with him on finding open ice and working on the slowest release in college hockey? No wonder he isn’t scoring goals lately. It takes him 5 seconds and a ton of open ice to get a shot off.

I haven't seen anything but positive comments on Persson's attitude, so this must be nagging illness or nagging injury, right?

We've had influenza going through the house. It's bad, then kinda goes away, then comes back and hangs on for awhile. Maybe something like that?

If that’s the case I don’t know why they would have him around the team as much as he’s been.

    Whose got more nattys

Dude looked like a dork with a loaded WJC team. Won’t ever get another shot he coached so well. Outstanding at getting a bunch of grinders (which I thought you hate) to buy into boring defensive style game where you hope to get the bounce to win 2-1.

  9. Does Blake have a shot at the hobey considering there is an argument that any of the BC guys may not be one of the top 2-3 best players on their own team? Who is the best player between smith, perreault, gauthier, Leonard?

Agreed about Matteo, thought he was better than that too. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and just say he more than likely got caught up in the moment and was fired up. If he does it again then I will be more critical of him.

He would be suit popping drinking coca colas up top if he was still here so I guess he made the right decision. Feel good moment for him even if extremely short lived.
