I just don’t see much, if any recruiting value. The U18 team is nearly all committed to schools by the time we typically play them. Most are committed prior to, or near the start of joining the U17 team.

How many NTDP kids transfer? Much more recruiting value in the current landscape than before.

At least Schmaltz had more goals than you this past season.

    ......and you've followed Albrecht's career?

Long leash is obviously better than a short one at UND.

As a rule I try not to put down players currently on the roster on this site. I've slipped before but won't say anything negative now.

If Benoit wasn't drafted with a throwaway pick we wouldn't be having this conversation.

So we should focus on the portal more? I think we should focus more on getting the best talent we can and letting them learn on the job. Obviously some of those players won't work out, but if you hit on more than you miss, you'll be in the hunt at the end of the year.

The coaches did a great job last off-season finding portal guys that fit in, but sometimes I think the coaches choose the short-term certainty of 5th and 6th year guys over the long-term potential of talented freshmen and sophomores.

There is a whole new recruiting landscape. We may or may not have recruited a player saying if he proved himself elsewhere he could come here afterwards. Less risk all around, but keeps the have nots from keeping those diamonds in the rough.

A single shift....that's the criteria now?

Obviously he wasn't a "culture" guy.

Do we risk having a liability on the ice hoping he will develop, or do we cut our losses on the Wade Murphys and Harrison Blaisdells of the world? Roster management is very different than it was a few years ago, clearing room for proven commodities is part of the game.

It was never explained why the drafted Benoit was buried behind non-drafted transfer D portals, even when the transfer Ds were missing assignments & not doing as well in the second half of the season. People complain here when higher-ceiling guys don't get the necessary game reps to develop, but in Benoit's case, he was conveniently forgotten behind players who will never see a day in the NHL. Or maybe that applies only to forwards. Favoritism, perhaps? So off to QU he goes, where Pecknold will probably utilize & develop his talents. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Granted I didn't see what the coaches saw, but it seems like he was never given a fair shake; unless someone here who knows more can explain this.

Benoit had the single worst shift I saw this season. Took a bad penalty and missed an assignment resulting in a goal on his delayed call.

To be fair, I have been adamant that they bring in a FR that is a true depth add (i.e. another Montgomery). Then Klee as 12 / 13 F would be ideal.

What I don't want to see is Berry add a "depth forward" out of the portal. We all know that player will be a fixture in the line-up and will push a FR out. That is a guarantee. Berry cannot help himself.

    Klee / Littler / Croal at 12 / 13 / 14 > Mediocre 5th year at 12 / Croal 13 / Klee 14

Johannes was a "depth forward" at first.

  6. Rieger Lorenz spent his whole post game interview where he could have talked about his goal instead praising his coach. Carle clearly connects with his players unlike anything we've ever had. Simpson is our equivalent alum ascendant in the world of coaching, please hold on to him.

  7. Carle did his homework over the 48 hours between games. There were a half dozen plays where BC passed on the grade A for a tap in attempt and DU never flinched, taking away the easy goal. Davis also Hunswick'd 'em.

I can't see Lucius in GF.  I mean his parents built him his own school.

Or are we the new landing spot for spoiled rich kids who committed when they were 11?

I'm honestly surprised that they weren't steered to UND by their dad based on the images he wants associated with him:

  9. Fellow attendees, any hockey world sightings? I saw Greg Powers and his (presumed) wife meandering, then moments later Rico moving fast with a VIP/worker pass around his neck. Also saw a BUTTER hat and realized it was former captain Gage Ausmus.

Man, watching BC handle Michigan with relative ease last night made me wonder how UND would have fared had they advanced. BC is so dang fast and skilled.

It would have been a similar outcome, but a more lively environment.

  11. It's going to take some more luck for DU to have a chance against BC tomorrow. Bottom line, Denver is getting lights out goaltending from a former liability, so they are making their own luck in that regard. If you told me after the "sticks up" game that Davis would be the best player in the tournament.... I don't even know how to finish that sentence.

How was Blake's situation different than Berg's. Both were drafted in 2021 so why was NYI comfortable letting Berg play another season while CAR would have lost Blake to free agency?

Blake is striking while the iron is hot. Berg has more to prove in college.

  13. It's too bad his final moment was so embarassing for him, but he was a ton of fun to watch and didn't push back on another year of juniors so he contributed from day 1. I don't know if his demeanor was bad or if it's just kids these days; it's not unique to him, just more noticeable.
