Because those are the rules. The men propel the ball much harder; and, much more contact and use of the crosse to dislodge the ball is allowed in the mens game, especially up high. In the womens game, getting any part of your crosse within a foot (?) of an opponent's head is a penalty. And they call it. However, it's my expectation that you'll see helmets (insurance issues) in the womens NCAA game sooner rather than later. The precedent for women in helmets in the NCAA was already set by hockey and softball. (I'm surprised WLax has held out this long.) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I suppose wearing a full helmet isn't "pretty enough" or something. I was going to mention that women's hockey has full helmets but you beat me to it. With a growth rate at the high school level of 290 percent over the last decade, the number of female athletes participating in girl's lacrosse has skyrocketed to almost 52,000 according to a recent survey conducted by the National Federation of State High School Associations. What this translates to is a much greater need for opportunities at the college level which UC Athletics will address by adding women's lacrosse as a varsity sport. Concurrently, the University of Cincinnati has elected to discontinue its women's rowing program at the conclusion of its traditional season in the spring of 2007. With Cincinnati, Florida, and South Carolina all having announced the addition of women's lacrosse past six months, the number of collegiate women's teams may soon double the number of men's teams. No BCS-type school has added men's lacrosse in a number of years, in spite of the growth of that sport. And now Canadian schools (lax is the "other" national sport of Canada) are a real possibility in the NCAA. If should be an interesting ride. It seems as if swimming & diving has the best chance to find a DI conference home early on, and hopefully continue to be a successful program as well. They will most likely be the two programs that are designated to qualify for the post-season early. While the Horizon would be much more attractive, I'd still prefer to forge an early association with the Mid-Con, which could also use swimming members, to strengthen our chances of getting all of our teams into that leauge. Minnesota 131 It would be quite an accomplishment for any mid-major individual swimmer to gain a point at the DI championships. This variety of locales provides the team with players that are experienced and also fills the gaps that are left because of lower interest levels in the Midwest. Lacrosse is starting to become more popular here and many of the players played at their respective high schools in Minnesota, but the east and west coasts still remain the most popular markets for the sport. "Thanks to the aviation program and Minnesota schools that have started playing lacrosse, we have had a good turnout," Law said. If UND started a DI lacrosse team, have to believe that there would be at least 20 non-recruited walk-on candidates enrolling annually at UND from out-of-state. With DI LAX schools predominantly private, the relative low tuition of UND would give allow a DI option for prospective western or midwestern middle class lax athletes. bincitysioux Posted April 3, 2007 Share Posted April 3, 2007 Yet another victory for the Univeristy of North Dakota in a heated Sioux-Bison matchup. UND 10, NDSU 8 North Dakota scored to begin the fourth quarter going up two goals. The Bison fought for one more goal in the fourth and despite out-shooting North Dakota 10 to 3 in the fourth quarter, NDSU just couldn't find the net.
