Sandy?

Let's be realistic........Berry isn't going anywhere and neither is Sandy but 2 title games and a championship in the last 2 years compared to UND's last 2 seasons definitely shows there's something going on.

...............and that something has UND looking up at UMD.

3 chip appearances in 8 years....two chip wins in that span.  Tons of solid recruits coming in.  I wouldn’t mock that program right now.

Not mocking them, they've had a nice 3 years or 8 I guess, but that includes two missed tournaments. But people are losing their mind over one year here, it's fair to look at his whole resume. Not a chance he would have lasted at UND long enough to get where he is, yet people want Berry fired after 1 semi down year, where UND ended in a position that has made the tournament the last 10 years.

Also fair to point out how thin the line between winning a title and missing the tournament is. Duluth was pretty damn lucky to make the tournament this year.

I don't think there are many that really want Berry out, we were on the bubble. Agree with Oxbow, in that Berry & Sandelin are seated. Motzko would be on potential shaky ground. Sandelin needs credit where he is rapidly getting it done. Your last paragraph explains most, ND MN BC watched, but were on the bubble when it burst.

Duluth barely made the tourney. They played with heart. I'm happy for them.

The most barely ever, 6 games had to go against MN, but better said - their way, then they win the next four and raise the hardware!

Lots of parity through out this season. I've always said, parity stops after conference tournaments, then it's the coaches job to get team motivated and get it done. Motzko hasn't figured this part out yet.  Playoff team needs to deal with the added mental stress of potentially being able to raise that hardware.

The Flop and BarnWinterSportsEngelstad could sit next to each other!

What don't you understand, I have season tickets at The Ralph, Hawks' Nest, The Betty, and went to last 3 softball games.

UND has had thousands of students, athletes, and coaches that have gone on to coach elsewhere.

From youth sports, to high schools, to the Berrys, Sandys, to the Phils, Haks, Fitchs, and etc.

Many alumni will root for their favorite team and also for a coach with UND connections - when not playing their favorite team.

Congratulations Sandelin!

Take a break!

With the better college coach (over Hakstol and Berry).

Seriously, Hakstol is coaching in the best league in hockey and Berry has won an NCAA title already. It took many years for Sandy to win a title.

To suggest that Sandy is above these two great UND coaches is a stretch at best. More years than not UMD hasn't made the NCAA playoffs. If Sandy has been coaching at UND and missed the NCAA playoffs 10 out of 18 seasons, he'd been shown the door seasons ago. Especially, with the standards that some here hold the coaches to.

UND under Hak and Berry missed them once in 16 seasons.

What many people fail to realize are the recruits UND (the facilities and tradition) brings in inherently.  I can’t stand when folks take one coach's record at one school and assume that’s what they’d be at UND. Had Sandy been offered the job at UND (prior to Hak) I truly doubt he would have had any losing seasons.

Duluth was lucky to make the tourney, but that equaled the unluckiness they experienced earlier in the season with injuries.  And here was that timeframe they had to send 5 players to the world juniors (honestly not too sure what their record was during the u20 though).

Since Sandelin got a building upgrade to help with recruitment he's 3 title game appearance and 2 title wins in last 8 years.  You're assuming that Hakstol/Berry would have achieved the same results if half of their career was spent recruiting into a lesser building than the old Ralph (the old Decc).  Try again.

Again, what Sandy has done AT Duluth is phenomenal.  Berry obviously shouldn’t lose his job though.

Bingo.

Again berry shouldn’t lose his job but to say sandy would have failed here is assanign.  You would have to be a terrible coach to fail at UND.  Time will tell if berry is the real deal head coach....he was a phenomenal assistant/associate.  But Sandy is a great college head coach, no doubting that unless you’re fully biased.
