2017 Season

The Massey Rankings now have Portland St as a favorite to win all their Big Sky games and go undefeated in the conference.  The match at Portland will go a long way to decide who hosts the tournament, and theoretically, UND can go 15-1 is the BSC and still not host.  Seriously doubt UND will be an at large team after that loss to Ga Tech, the Cal Poly loss is considered differently as they are so strong, so that PSU game could make or break the season.

Portland St is only a slight favorite at Sac St, but if we lost at Portland we'd have to have a one game lead over PSU to host the tournament.  Most of the Big Sky teams we'll have to roll 3-0 over them to impress the P5 selection committee, and we failed last night.

Have we fallen in the rankings or has Portland St been playing exceptionally well?

UND fell after the Cal Poly game, and Portland St has been inching up seemingly this whole season.  The Vikings lost to Boise St and Santa Clara, which are below where UND sits.  Since the game is at Portland, PSU is the favorite, but if the game was in Grand Forks, UND would be the favorite.

Sac St seems like the other likely challenger, as squads like No Ariz and No Colo and Idaho St have plummeted in Massey from last year.

As witnessed by the UND team at Ole Miss, schools are upgrading their volleyball where necessary.  Kansas, though it has a Top 20 team, is spending millions to expand and upgrade it's volleyball facility, which only seat like 1300 now, but will be razed and rebuillt to 3000+ shortly.

In the Summit, Denver and USD have good to excellent facilities, but why NDSU insists on the Bensen Bunker gym is beyond my pay grade.  But don't look at the ratings as now NDSU is in the top 90, though they didn't even push UND in that match.  Most of the Big Sky is well below them, except Portland St and Sac St.

That's part of the football stadium project at Kansas. There is something else that is going to be part of that project.

There was an upset yesterday as Minnesota lost for the first time in 40 home games and fell out of the #1 spot as Michigan State swept them.  UND might have been helped by this in the Massey Ratings as Mich St lost to Ga Tech who UND also lost to.  But UND's ranking rose 4 spots in Massey to #45.

NDSU doesn't care about volleyball, their focus is on football and whatever resources are left then its men's basketball. Women's sports there have plummeted in the last decade.

Slow start for the girls, but once they settled in, they showed that they are clearly the better team. Idaho doesn't have anyone that can hit as hard as us, although they made it interesting enough for Pryor to call TO at 22-19. Amelia Johnson is getting playing time over Julia K.
