I wonder if Hastings new contract will effect women's hockey team, I looked dup their revenues and they make $1 for women's hockey.

That really doesn't mean all that much.

If we've learned anything lately it's that all the former Enron accountants work for university athletic departments.

Strib makes it sound like a done deal.

It's official.  NMU just posted it on Twitter that he is the new guy in charge.

Good for him.  He deserves a shot at a head coaching job.

Agreed.  Give it a few years and he becomes the HC at Minnesota.

Grant sees that he might as well take a head coaching position, Mike decides that I rather be an assistant until my promised job I keep getting told about.

Like in 2047 when Lucia finally hands the reigns over to Guentzel...only to have Guentzel kick the bucket a day after being promoted?

Agreed.  I think Lucia overstays his welcome and Admin cleans house when he's gone.  Potulny was the first domino.

Buccigross is saying that Mel is leaving Tech for the Michigan job. A guy that works for the Detroit Free Press says he's talked to Mel and Mel hasn't talked to anyone.

It sounds like Buccigross is stating his opinion, but some are taking it as a done deal.

I think Mel is staying put too.

DSnEv-MV_normal.jpg The Mayor John Hoven @mayorNHL

Update on LA Kings coaching search - sources tell us mgmt is interested in Denver's Jim Montgomery. He just guided DU to 2017 NCAA title.

There are a lot of teams interested in Monty, but he isn't in a hurry to go to the NHL.  He can almost pick and choose where he ends up.

It sounds like Mel gets paid pretty good at Tech.

He better not think these opportunities will always be there. Monty better not pull a Guentzel (waiting for Don to retire) and think he'll just get a NHL job when ever he thinks he will.

Money is a big part of it but its like any other job, there are also benefits and weaknesses at any school. Mel Pearson has a lot of freedom to run his program the way he wants to at MTU, if he takes the job at Michigan there his no guarantee he will be given that same level of autonomy. He would also leave a school where the sport he coaches is the life blood of the school for a one where its a third tier sport. Not saying he won't take it, I'm just saying that the paycheck isn't the only consideration.

Same situation with Minnesota, If Lucia eventually gets let go or retires, then I'm sure that the University would look to a lot of different coaches as a replacement. They will offer a big paycheck, but with that paycheck comes a lot of back seat drivers in the form of U of M alumni and the MNHS hockey league. While I think Grant Potulny would have loved to coach his alma mater someday (and he may still get that shot), Minnesota comes with its whole line of complications. NMU is a middle of the pack program, but Potulny will probably have a lot of autonomy regarding recruiting and how he runs the team there. I doubt he would get the same amount of freedom at the U of M.

Again not saying money isn't a factor, I'm just saying there are a lot of other factors too.
