"Senior A.J. Stockwell started at left guard and freshman Noah Mortel started at left tackle. This is a move to get Mortel valuable reps the rest of the season and have him ready to go for 2018. Both Mortel and Ryan Tobin have been consistent performers up front for UND so far this season"

It's exciting anytime you see freshman start and perform well. I'm excited to watch these two players along with Nguon get a lot of reps the rest of the year. Others I'll be watching closely the rest of the year will be Shannon, Canady and Hunt.

With so many underclassman playing key roles now because of injuries that wouldn't have originally, if they can be competitive in their upcoming games it's a great sign for years to come. Injuries derailed the team this year, but they could be stronger next season because of it.

Since I've been accused of being a "stoner" I had best defend myself,  I haven't smoked a joint since college where I partook maybe a handful of times while at UND.  I was on the FB team so I guess at any time I could have been tested shortly after smoking and failed and been kicked off the team and had my name drug through the mud in the papers, even though I was an honor student who graduated with two degrees.

The pollyanna's on this thread are naïve to how much drug use is prevalent in our society.  Stock brokers, investment bankers and politicians (cough.... Trump, Steve Bannon) can snort all the coke they can handle and we'll look the other way because it makes them more productive.   Police officers, fire fighters, and our military can take steroids to build up their bodies for the physical rigors of the job and we'll ignore it in even the most obvious of cases. In Silicon Valley right now, web developers pay for hallucinogens like mushrooms and LSD to enhance their creativity and, if Steve Jobs is to be believed, it's why we have the iPhone.  All over the country (especially in ND) their are millions of Americans who can't make it through the day without a pain pill or two or three or four and they're the helpless victims of addiction.  The only time anyone ever actually pays any price for drug use is when a young person (usually black or Hispanic) decides to use marijuana, because of all the horrible addictions (alcohol, gambling, pornography) that someone can fall into, for some reason marijuana is the one we get upset about.

Thanks CNN.  I know guys in all those professions.  All taking drugs....not really.  I guess we hang in different crowds with people of different values.

Love to see the young guys compete. Heard Askew on the pregame show on my way to GF, and he noted that most of the guys would have been RS or for the non-RS rooks, would have been brought along a bit more slowly, but he loves that they are getting valuable game experience now. Hope they respond well the rest of the season and frankly, they are fun to watch.

Maybe I am naïve, I did not realize how supportive of a drug culture football is...

Would you support drug testing of the hockey team as vigorously as drug testing of the football team?  The drug use rates in collegiate/ NHL hockey is astronomical and it's a lot harder stuff than marijuana.

How many inside linebackers are the best  players we  can put on the field?  Should UND play more 4 man d line untill next year? Experience is with the  d lineman. Young linebackers  play with heart but to light at this point in there career.

it is nearly impossible to totally switch up the scheme on the defense on the fly. Even with a bye week it is tough to do as that is something that needs to be rolled out in spring ball and finished up in fall camp.

I don't see any dline with the possible exception of bennett that can move even close to fast enough for ILB.  Would be fine if the other team NEVER passed or ran wide but i don't think the Grizzlies would oblige.   Not sure if you guys noticed but on one of the UNC touchdown runs Rastas was way too slow to make the tackle and Neverman was spun around a couple times trying to make the tackle.   I liked Cam Hunt on Saturday, still tons to learn but certainly is a bigger guy that can move.

TD run is at 1:54 of video:

D line has to play big to make up for our weakness at ILB. For the most part they did that Saturday but yeah, that run stuck out to me as well. I also thought I saw Rastas hit the wrong gap on that play as well.

There have been so many plays like that this season....just momentum killers.  Rastas, Neverman, Richman giving their all but in reality without the injuries I see Rastas as backup as a jr and sr and never a starter, and Neverman and Richman as never seeing the field other than ko cover.    I would think on that play with Rastas in position, if that is O'brien, Rodgers, Hunt or Larson that is a gain of 1-2 yards or maybe even a loss.  Same thing is happening in the secondary although I am not sure the dropoff has been so abrupt.
