Wichita State Football Consultants Report

The biggest thing I get with this report is that Wichita State will only be FCS for a minimum time.  The comparisons with the G5 are where Wichita wants to be.  The MVFC be damned in their opinion.

If Wichita wanted to be FCS, the MVFC would be begging UND to come aboard.  There is no reason to believe that either school want the MVFC right now.

No reason to believe that except that is what UND's president is pursuing.

Sure, if you discount actual text messages sent by Faison to Patti V discussing what year UND would be able to start playing in the conference. And that's just what has been made public by the Herald.

Wichita State president John Bardo needs conference resolution before moving on football

Bardo said he is considering the FCS level more seriously now, after originally stating a strong preference for FBS. Playing FCS and staying in the MVC is an option, he said. The public university MVC members play football in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, widely considered the strongest FCS conference.

“I’ve backed off on the FBS only,” he said. “There may be a reason FCS helps us. Maybe.”

While Bardo admits emotionally he’s excited about football’s potential, he maintains common sense will guide his decision. The study tells him FCS football requires an operating budget of around $4 million. To step up to FBS, the range is $8 to $13 million for conferences.

The MVFC is in a hot pickle.

If they grant Wichita State a spot in the MVFC, they sign their own death warrant as a power basketball league. FBS conferences will immediately grant them membership when they get to full strength FCS.  The MVFC has already said they are not interested in members who would use the MVFC as a launching pad, so that eliminates the Shockers.

The best option for the Shockers is to go as a football affiliate to an FBS granting league directly.  The only league that would do that is the WAC.  The WAC would play FCS for a few years anyway, which is ideal for the Shockers.

The MVC is royally screwed by Wichita St wanting FBS, and the MVFC has no power to stop it,

Funny how there were no texts from Patty.  As said before, I can text Patty about conference membership but that doesn't mean squat.

Yet you take the most minimal information and turn it into huge conference conspiracies.  For someone that can turn more of nothing into something, it sure is strange that when there is an actual connection you totally dismiss it.

FYP.  Although MVFC membership MAY be Kennedy's goal, he hasn't stated clear intent one way or the other yet, as far as I remember.  We thought his goal was to cut sports too and we all know how that turned out.

Faison once stated that on an AD audio conference, all the other BSC AD's were livid about the Sioux name.

I stated here that was total BS and got incredible grief on this board.

Terry Wanless was later interviewed and he said the Sioux name was not mentioned.

Presidents negotiate conference changes, not ADs.  But by all means, you have a right to believe lies.

Presidents can also grant ADs (and others) purvue to explore possibilities with their counterparts in other conferences while the Presidents, in parallel, work out the politics with their own counterparts within their existing conference.

So Faison just started sending her dates that we could join the league without any conversation beforehand?  Get a clue man...

Presidents have the final say on conference changes, they delegate their athletic directors to talk with commissioners to do the negotiating. Especially in a scenario where the AD has been having conversations on and off with Douple and Patty for 5+ years and the president hasn't even been on the job 5 months.

The MVFC had been publicly and privately saying "No" since UND moved to Division 1 and that is exactly where the conversation ended. Now all of the sudden possible dates of joining the MVFC and exit dates and fees with the UND and the Big Sky are being discussed. UND very well may not end up in the MVFC but to completely deny that they are closer to joining then they have ever been and it is a very real possibility is just being ignorant.

Faison texts could have been credible if he sent them to the President who was in charge of expansion for each conference.  He didn't do that.  Patty V is effectively the operations manager, not the CEO.  The MVFC does not have appreciable money coming from  TV contracts.  If it did, then she would be very important as the negotiator and point man for a network.  But she is not.

The MVFC and even the Slummit can make an expansion vote without the commissioners even knowing that.  I made FOIA requests to all the Presidents of the Slummit, so I have proof that Double was just a front man.  Patty V is a front woman, as she doesn't have any real power except to suspend players and coaches and has no power or say in expansion.

If Faison had sent a text to either MVFC or Slummit President who is now in charge of expansion, it would be believable.  Miller and most of this board have been duped by Faison, as Faison has a special talent for deceiving.  David Chicoine of SDSU, don't know if he is even President now, was formerly the point man for Slummit expansion.  Don't know who is now.

So you're stating that Faison sent the commissioner of the MVFC text messages about when UND could start conference play and making sure it aligned with leaving the Big Sky to throw everyone off because UND is going to join the WAC with a bunch of other Big Sky schools?

That sounds wack.  ;)

He did it to cover UND's base of fans that wants the Slummit and MVFC.  If UND announced it was moving to the WAC before the Slummit and MVFC were investigated, the pitchfork crowd that wants the Slummit and MVFC, like on this board, would be out in full force.

NDSU has always been against UND football ever since they moved to DI, and opposes UND's membership in the MVFC but not the Slummit.  The MVFC would mandate UND-NDSU games every year, which NDSU opposes with all its might.  Ask why hasn't there been a UND-NDSU game in Grand Forks.

Furthermore, NDSU fans would be enraged and contact their legislators if UND tried to one up them with an FBS conference.  UND would be covered both on cost issues and the WAC as NDSU purposely put up road blocks to the MVFC.  All fingers would point to NDSU as the culprit in the end.  A perfect example of NDSU's hypocrisy would be exposed, so NDSU won't push it.  Politics worked to perfection by Faison and Kennedy?

Noticed that Faison and Kennedy had a long chat in the stands last night during the vball game.  Just saying.

So do you believe that Doug Fullerton had no influence in the Big Sky's most recent expansion that resulted in UND, SUU, Cal Poly, and UC Davis being added to the league?

Nope. Also make sure to ignore everything Hurd says about the WAC too.

I do not know if people have seen Pres. Kennedy's interview on Prairie Pulse.  The impression I got is that he felt the institution lost focus during the nickname debate due to the time and effort spent on the situation. Maybe the look at athletics was a move to get that behind him, so that he can focus what he believes are to be the main priorities of the university going forward.

At the time, the Montanas were actively talking to the WAC about FBS.  That created a panic in the Big Sky, because the Montanas are the lifeblood of the Root contract and bring many visiting fans to other venues.  Fullerton and the other schools would do anything that would keep the Montanas FCS even if it was just a few more years.  Fullerton's actions were just an extension of what the Montana Presidents wanted, as they wanted future FBS partners, keep western FCS schools from being forced to the WAC, and enough FCS schools to not royally screw the remaining Big Sky schools.  Moreover, the Montanas got the Dakota access they have always wanted, but didn't have the votes to get them.  Threatening to leave gave the Montanas what they wanted.  Fullerton was just a mouthpiece, not the brains.
