2015 Volleyball Season

Recommended Posts

And the Fighting Hawks era begins with a season-ending loss for volleyball.  They just weren't the same without Julia K.  Glad she still has a couple years left for us.  McKenzie, you will be missed :(

I miss hardee

Yeah, let's see if Prior handles this loss better than Hardee did on his last trip out to a BSC tournament. :glare:

Where can we find info on the 2016 recruiting class?

The wiki site here.  Three outside hitters all over 6':  Brueggeman Tx, Doucette  (Cretin HS, Mn), Johnson (Roseau).  Good chance some will contribute to a better kill game next year.

There will almost certainly be defensive specialists and libero designates brought in to fill Hart's and Clarke's spots.  Those type players often don't get scholarships, at least for a couple of years.  Dominates was brought in last year, but we'll still have holes to fill.

Pryor=Mussman.

Only for fan enthusiasm.  Pryor actually does a good job recruiting and has set up the team well for future success.  His coaching tactics and adjustments could improve some, but he's relatively new to the HC position.

Hardee was a great ambassador, but he had his flaws, which caused his demise.

Northern Arizona has what amounts to a #8 regional seed, so the Big Sky must be getting some respect in women's VB.  Idaho State probably wasn't too far from an at large bid.

USC, Texas, Minnesota, and Nebraska were the four #1 seeds.

San Diego beat NAU 3-0, so not a good display by the Big Sky in NCAA tournament play.

I wonder how much the extra week off that Big Sky takes before tourney plays into this.  Not sure if same for San Diego.  And lets be honest, in the west coast Big Sky volleyball isn't that strong.

I saw on Heraldo live chat that three girls quit at semester break.  Who were they?

Fingers crossed that those 3 weren't vital....

I know Megan Sprengler transfered to Iowa. Heard others weren't coming back but don't know the other two names.

Did Sprengler redshirt?    What's the story?

She went to U of Iowa. They have a better program for her major and I'm sure closer to home helps out. She's also now on the Iowa rowing team.

Courtney Place for sure. She transferred to Augie.  I heard Amanda Harnett also.

Losing Place certainly hurts!

Place's hometown is quite close to Sioux Falls.    Maybe that has something to do with it  .  Hate to see her go.

Yes, it stinks for all of us who love watching their talents at UND. It's two years in a row now that we have lost a talented underclassmen from Minnesota to the Division II ranks. Pioske now Place. But I am sure they did what's best for them and their future. Much respect and luck to all who are making these decisions!

Sprengler rarely saw the court, and probably not at all once the preseason tourneys were done. I seem to recall  Harnett  had some quality floor time early, but rarely saw the floor in last month or two of the season. I liked her fire, but she's undersized for D1, even in the BigSky. With Fraase playing next year, and two more recruits coming in at 6'1" or taller it seems likely that future playing time (or lack of) may have had an influence on her decision.

I don't know why, but keeping Canadian players in the US is an issue everywhere, for both the men and women. If anyone has any insight on that I'd love to hear it. Or maybe there are non-volleyball reasons for her leaving. They really are, or need to be, STUDENT-athletes. If she's not getting what she needs here I wish her the best wherever she ends up.

Losing Place hurts. Every team needs a big stick on the outside, the player that puts it away when everyone in the gym knows she's going to get set. She wasn't there yet, but had a pretty good start. There looks to be quality players to fill the slot, but that year of experience, especially for a freshman with three years left, will be hard to replace.

For Place, it definitely wasn't for lack of playing time.  Pryor never took her out.  I'm guessing she'll be a rock star for Augustana.
