Sioux vs Seminoles??

I'm sure this has been hased over and over here so sorry to bring up an old subject. Why is it the Florida State Seminoles are allowed to use their nickname while the Sioux are ordered to change theirs?

Hope to see you in Spkane

The closest Sioux tribe to UND, Spirit Lake, blessed it.

The other Sioux tribe in ND, Standing Rock, opposed the name, although they supposedly sanctioned it with a peace pipe in 1968.  Now, new leadership at Standing Rock wants to reinstate the name.  But the NCAA won't listen to them now.

Other tribes in the state, Chippewa and Mandan, Hidatsa, and Orikawa, all oppose, and are often the loudest voices.

I heard Standing Rock majority, but the chairman has the final say and has yet to approve or deny, he just been mute. Once the approval is given from him their will be major news if NCAA doesn't follow their agreement which was the 2 tribes.

The approvals had to be given and noticed provided to the NCAA by November 30, 2010 according to the Settlement Agreement.  Approvals after that date mean nothing to the NCAA.  The name isn't coming back.

Hey Clawman trust me you don't want to go there - every time someone asks me about it my wife just shakes her head. It's an entertaining 15 minute tirade on the joys of political correctness. As with most issues the answer is ....."follow the money."
