Yep.  They are in town to announce a 500 million dollar donation to UND for a new on campus football stadium and a push to move towards FBS.  Pretty convenient that the 15 year anniversary celebration of the Ralph happened to be the same weekend!!  ;)

That makes sense...:silly:

Apparently this guy is in town also.  I have a feeling his reaction to his grandson be drafted will be very similar (although for different reasons) to SV's reaction when the Engelstad's leave and no announcement comes this weekend.

It's interesting that our resident trolls didn't insist on shutting down a thread on bozoville, where posters were discussing joining with the Montanas and Idaho and NMSU to bring back the WAC FBS.  As long as NDSU gets to FBS first, FBS talk is all fine and dandy.  But if UND has ideas that it should go FBS, that kind of talk has to be squelched by the trolls.  UND should only be allowed to excel in hockey, and all other talk of improving our athletic standing is impermissible according to them.

I dont think Ive seen anyone say that the prime reason to go FBS is to move up before UND. Where to you come up with this stuff?

There is a very small contingent that want to go FBS now and it has nothing to do with UND. The vast majority are in a wait and see mode to see how the G5 shakes out and what would be the best move for NDSU. Again---those opinions have nothing to do with UND and their future plans.

I will now leave you to your hookah and delusions.

Ok, then that raises the next question of why accept UND in the first place if going to GF were such a burden all along?

Probably because USD was supposed to be coming with and we would be travel partners.  Now our travel partner is UNC, which requires a plane ride.

At the WAC media day for men's basketball, NMSU Coach Weir said football schools will be coming in and the WAC will be a football conference again.  Said something like WAC Commish Hurd will likely hate this and then he shut up.

He didn't say the football school were coming back, he said he'd like the football teams to come back.

With a petition asking the Governor of Montana to replace the Chancellor and President of the University of Montana, don't think they will be going FBS.

Cruzado at MSU practically runs Montana higher education now anyway.  She will get what she wants, which is the WAC. And Coach Weir said that he probably shouldn't mention what was coming down because it's above his pay grade and Commissioner Jeff (Hurd) would be not be  pleased.

This will be a split BSC to get a true league champion that plays every team.  All it needs is six FCS schools from the Big Sky for an autobid to be automatically granted.

WAC

UND - UMKC

UNC - Denver

UTRGV - NMSU

Idaho - E Wash

Mont - Mont St

One more FCS team is needed, as Idaho isn't FCS yet.  Probably Idaho St.

It won't talk FBS until after it adds Wichita St football.  After a few years, No Col and Idaho St can move back to the Big Sky.

If UND can't get an FBS stadium down the road, NDSU will swap conferences with us, as that is the only way they would get an FBS invite.

The WAC is the most esteemed conference in FCS by FCS Presidents, because it can grant FBS status to members.  The BSC Presidents look at the WAC as an absolute necessity to take over.  Otherwise the MVC or Southland might try some kind of swap with it.

So now schools are moving up only to move back in a couple of years?

He said HOPEFULLY football schools will be coming back.  Big difference.

I don't doubt the WAC is trying to recruit football schools to join, but that's a far cry from it actually happening and UND being a part of it.
