NHL expanding to Seattle in 2014?

It appears no group from Seattle applied, though a group from Tukwila may be working on a later bid. A Toronto/Hamilton bid did not materialize either.

Las Vegas and Quebec City seem almost assured of teams.

I think Seattle's group has always been more interested in prying the Coyotes away from Arizona than in paying a hefty expansion application fee.

Its been said that Seattle wouldn't have to pay that much because the NHL wants to be in Seattle.

Seattle's lack of a hockey arena may have bit Seattle again. The SoDo arena requires an NBA team before Seattle and King County chip in to build it. For Tukwila and Bellvue, owners have to pay for the arena and team. Key Arena has horrible sight lines for hockey even as a temporary facility. A relocation cant happen until there's a new arena. Seattle's NHL dreams may be screwed for twenty more years.

Seatitle and a second Toronto team would probably accept the largest expansion fees, so the existing owners would profit more.

Strance how Quebec and Las Vegas expansion seems to be tabled for now.  Are the owners waiting for a bigger payout?

The Florida Panthers got $86 million in support from Broward County over the next few years.  Imagine if they hadn't got that, Quebec City or Las Vegas would have been getting a team next season.  The Phoenix Coyotes are moving out of Glendale in a couple year, maybe to a remodeled Coliseum, where the Suns used to play, or a new arena on ASU's campus.

Glendale bent over backwards for the Coyotes with that arena deal - a few years there and then they're gone.  What a fuster-cluck that organization is.  Bunch of carpet-baggers.

not exactly, the city not once but twice stabbed the Coyotes in the back by backing out of the Arena deal. A contract was signed by both parties and then when the city realized they signed a deal they couldn't afford they backed out. Now, they are cancelling the Arena management deal. Ownership has tried numerous times to negotiate in good faith with city but in the end their hands are tied. To quote ownership, "we want to stay but how long can you keep talking to a wall?"

There won't be any pro basketball or hockey in Seattle any time in the near future - if ever. Just another typical move by the Seattle "leaders" to make sure they chase away as much business as they can.

C'mon man, the city needed that space to zone in nineteen more Starbucks and seven new marijuana retailers.

San Diego could enter the picture for the 32nd NHL team, rather than Seattle.  AEG is proposing a $1.4 billion investment that includes an NHL/NBA quality arena for San Diego.  It would be entirely privately owned, so the city wouldn't have to pay.  If the Chargers leave for LA, San Diego would need more pro teams

Virginia Beach's new arena will be financed with mostly Chinese money.  An NHL team is wanted with that arena.

Couldn't be any worse than Phoenix in 1995 or Brooklyn next season, could it?

There has now been proposals for a new arena for the Islanders near Shea Stadium and at Belmont Park.  The Queens location would be better for Islanders fans, who are mostly in Nassau and Suffolk counties.  The Barclay's Center for hockey leaves a lot to desire.

I read that earlier this week, SiouxVolley.  The Islanders won't be long for the Barclays Center, that's for sure.

Still think the two franchises most likely to be relocated in the next year or two are the Coyotes and the Hurricanes.  I'd love to see the Hartford Whalers 2.0, but that'll never happen...the Quebec Nordiques, now that's a real possibility, though.
