Still waiting for the Aztec lobby to mobilize. Under Citizens United, I think extinct cultures can form PACs.

Aztecs is OK because the NCAA says so. And they're the NCAA so they can say Aztecs is OK.

(That makes as much sense as anything else. ;)

Hopefully this film stays on topic of history and not a slam against the current name/logo. That's all we need is another thing to drive the fanbase apart, even more than it is now.

Same people the Indian names have offended...rich white lawyers who aren't affiliated with the names in any way.

And enrolled Cherokee Chippewa members who hate the honoring of the Sioux Nation.

You would think think those same Chippewa would concentrate on opposing Central Michigan university...... oh wait they are too busy going into the Sioux's business...... sounds a lot like the history between the two....

CMU got permission from the closest Chippewa tribe to their campus, because their state's AG didn't F' up their NCAA settlement and make the school require two tribal approvals. If UND had to get permission from their closest Sioux tribe, we would still be the Fighting Sioux as Spirit Lake gave approval.

Petition Started To Change “Racist Mascot” For LSU

That's a new low I think.  From the article: “It is incredibly insulting for any African American to have to attend to a school that honors confederate [sic] militantism,” the petition reads. “It is already hard enough to be black at LSU, and these symbols must be changed.”

Umm.....no one HAS to attend LSU.

Clearly these same folks have no idea about where the North Carolina Tar Heels nickname originated. Or that Illinois kept "Illini" because it was named not for the tribe but for a military unit from Illinois and that unit's nickname was "Illini" based on their home state name of Illiniois and it's origin from the Illini tribe name.*

*I'm sure that makes total sense in NCAA-think. < facepalm >
