This announcement has already been posted in the hockey and football forums, but can't express how important a deal like this is, especially if it is for multiple years.
Recruiting: huge
National visibility: huge
Ease of Scheduling: huge
Conference affiliation: huge
Effectively, UND will have better coverage for itself than, for example, the entire Big Sky or Summit league or a number of other conferences. A school like Western Kentucky in basketball has a great deal with Fox College Sports Atlantic. UND has a deal in multiple sports.
Great job by the athletic department!!

FCS Announcement
Quote
It all starts on September 5, the first Saturday of the season, when the Northern Colorado Bears head to Lawrence, KS to take on Todd Reesing and the Kansas Jayhawks (7 p.m. ET). Two weeks later on September 19 FCS heads to Boulder as running back Darrell Scott and quarterback Cody Hawkins lead a resurgent Colorado offense against the Wyoming Cowboys (3:30 p.m. ET). On October 3, Iowa St. and Kansas St. square off at the famous Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO (3 p.m. ET). More match-ups are to be determined.
FCS will also air 18 simulcasts of live Big 12 contests throughout the season, starting with the Rocky Mountain Showdown between Colorado and Colorado St. on September 6 (7 p.m. ET).
In addition to this Big 12 package, FCS will feature live exclusive games from the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), the Northeast Conference (NEC), as well as Lehigh Mountain Hawks football and North Dakota Fighting Sioux.
FCS will also exclusively feature 11 delayed games from the Southland conference. These games will air on FCS Central the day following the game.
UND saved the announcement for Homecoming Week.

Great job by the athletic department!!
Not to mention the incidental exposure from the people who flip sports channels, the number of games that will be on a corner tv at sports bars, etc... this is why UND went D-I.
Congratulations UND.

It will be interesting if this has a consequence for the Sioux name and how progressive leaders on the reservation perceive as an opportunity. Did Spirit Lake know? To have 54 million households exposed to the Fighting Sioux name if a thirty second clip on the Sioux name is included on the broadcasts like before UND football and hockey games.

Yes, hockey will be played in front of a national audience for every home game.
Might end up developing into quite a cult of Sioux hockey fans nationwide that previously never had college hockey exposure.
Clothing and Sioux gear sales go up.
Using hockey as a springboard for this deal, UND basketball and football should both will see a huge benefit.
Recruits want to be on TV, so their friends and relatives can follow their careers.
Recruiting isn't as limited geographically.
With better recruits, the product on the floor or field goes up.
Western Kentucky basketball is at a higher level because of FCS.
More winning, more interest, positive feedback circuit.
Conference interest beyond the Summit increases.

And like someone said in one of these related threads, this could be paramount potential leverage when it comes to finding a conference home in DI.
