  1. Since the last crime-related thread was shut down a while back, I figure we need a new one. And with headlines like this, we needed a new one BAD. Seems the Herald/Forum aren't messing around with this one, and got right to the point.
  2. I looked back several years and did not see a one-place-fits-all thread for driving, traffic, construction, etc., so have at it, boys and girls! Saw this at the Herald's website just now, http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4092767-police-beefing-traffic-enforcement-gateway-drive There are only a couple of possibilities here: (1) people are scofflaws, or (2) the posted speed limits are too low. Don't know about you, but I vote (2). Gateway/Hwy 2 is, in addition to being a designated U.S. highway, a divided, limited access arterial road with smooth pavement, a level surface, wide shoulders, raised median, and good visibility. In other words, it's good for 45-50 mph, easy. I always understood that traffic data tending to show a disproportionate amount of speeding was used to evaluate speed limits and (gasp) sometimes even raise them to conform with reality. Yet, the GFPD's knee-jerk response here is to "beef up traffic enforcement on Gateway Drive." I'm shaking my head at this one. Revenue over common sense? Thoughts?
  3. The North Dakota Legislature appears likely to be sending to the Governor a bill permitting cities to install parking meters. How does the thought of having to pay to park affect your downtown dining options? Assume for the sake of argument that the meters will be active 7 days a week, and during lunch and dinner hours, and will take credit cards/pay by phone, and that the app is easily downloaded and user-friendly.
  4. In a column/article about UND hockey, longtime Herald sports writer Tom Miller dropped this bomb: Really, Tom? You had to go there? It's 2017. We're several years removed from the previous regime, we've grown, we've matured, we've tasted success, we've made the playoffs, and we are full of hope and optimism for the first time in a long time. Yet, you had to take a snipe at the previous coach? By name? Show some class. The writer here could have used big boy words and made several creative or witty allusions to the recent down period for UND football. He could have indirectly referenced Mussman a million different ways, and all of the readers in Siouxland would have gotten the joke, and maybe even smirked a little. He could have taken the high road and tied FB attendance to fan apathy or performance generally, instead of calling out a coach or a staff. This was small, petty, and mean. And bush league journalism. Okay for Deadspin, I suppose...maybe that's where Tom's aspirations lie. The Herald is blessed to have such an excellent sports writer in Brad Schlossman...I only wish the same could be said for his colleague and understudy. Boo, Tom. Boo.

  6. I was excited about this game, now I'm thinking they should cancel. Where you at, Grand Forks? Puck drops in four days, and this is embarrassing:
  7. Always Low Prices. Even in crisis.
  8. Dear City of Grand Forks, Please, please, please return our orange barrels. You've had them long enough. Sincerely, The Rest of the Civilized World P.S. What ARE you doing with all of them?
