  1. 2012 winner hoping for a 2nd title this year. I have UND in St Paul but BC winning it all.
  2. Bottineau and Rugby were co-oping last year also. The co-op incorporated Rugby into the name this year and in coming years more games will be played in Rugby depending on the numbers from each school district. Bottineau and Rugby have had co-ops in Bantams and PeeWee's for the last 3 years or so.
  3. I guess I still stand by this quote. Many say that he doesn't deserve it but have any of those people actually seen him play. I doubt it. He is as good as the others so quit bashing him. Look at the team mate differential and that offsets the competition differential. Put him on RR or South or GPR and you would see the point totals.
  4. When are the four finalists announced. Or have they already been. I know the 2 but was interested in the other 2 finalists.
  5. Williston 4 Bottineau 2 at end of 2nd Bottineau up 2-0 early but Williston scored 4 unanswered.
  6. Bottineau 7 Jamestown 4 Open netter by Heth. Herbel with a hat trick
  7. Century 7 Hazen 1 Bottineau 4 Jamestown 4 5 minutes into 3rd period
  8. Here's an interesting nugget. A UND alum who graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering was recently the subject of an article regarding NASA. This alum (Karen Nyberg) has been working at NASA for several years and is going to be entering space in the near future. I believe she is even scheduled to be on the next mission. Not bad for the little engineering school at UND, huh.
  9. The problem with this solution is not just the financial impact on these communities but also the financial impact on the students and their families. Many students are able to stay close to home, earn 2 years of education (toward a 4 year degree) and do so at a significant savings in comparison to attending UND or NDSU. The demographics at a school such as Bottineu's is significantly comprised of small town ND students and Canadian students. Many of these students are not prepared to attend a large university and would not be as successful in the large university setting. Myself for example, I attended Bottineau for 2 years and received an AS degree (while figuring out whayt I wanted to do) and did so basically for no cost. I was then able to attend UND and graduate with an engineering degree. Worked very well for me and my family. Your plan does not allow that to happen as easily fanancially. So maybe the result is a loss of students?? Just something to ponder.
  10. Does anyone know of the scores from the weekend?? Especially Jamestown v. Bottineau.
  11. It might be a little high but they just beat Mandan and Dickinson this past weekend. They haven't lost for a month, if they can continue it into Jamestown and Williston why not. Dave Hoff, Bottineau's coach, should be given some credit for Bottineau's improvement so I don't think it is all that overrated. They seem to be getting better as the year goes on.
  12. Why would it make sense to close down Bottineau. Because it is in a samll community with an enrollment around 600? These are not good enough reasons for me. MSU-Bottineau has several ciriculums in horticulture, forestry, wildlife management, water technology that are not available in other universities in ND. They also have a nursing program that many rural students take remotely. Another issue involves the the financial stability of the college. To my knowledge the school is managed very well and is not having finanacial issues as Mayville is facing. I do also agree with previous statements that closing ofr these schools would be devistating to these communitites. Most of the small colleges are well supported by the community to help ensure their survival. The discussion of closing these schools has been ongoing for 20 plus years and I personally don't see it happening any time soon.
  13. you've got to be kidding, Stremick is not the besty player in the west.
  14. In reply to UNDhockey 22: The real question is how do we compare talent across the state. Have you seen Herbel play and compared him to others that are discussed in this tread? My guess is not. I have seen him play but not all of the others from GF and Fargo. I put it out here because most of you think hockey does not exist outside of GF or Fargo. I think there is a place for a west player in this discussion. And if you have not seen him play how can you say he does belong. As far as being selected to elite teams or being recruited here is what I know. Eric Herbel has been on the 88-89 selects with all the GF and Fargo players discussed in this topic. He played AAA midgets last year but came back to ND for his senoir year. I do know the Bobcats are talking with him not sure about various colleges.
  15. In youth hockey there is a thing called fair play points. The winner gets its two points as normal but each team is eligble to earn an extra point called a fair play point. The team receives this point if they keep penalty minutes under 14 minutes (I think this is right but may vary from age group to age group). Have not heard about using this past the Bantam level.
