  10. Courtesy of News-Democrat: Porter is hoping he can fill a void; Blues may need to find gritty winger BY NORM SANDERS News-Democrat "ST. LOUIS --The last time he skated at Scottrade Center, St. Louis Blues prospect Chris Porter was captain of the University of North Dakota squad that lost to Boston College at the 2007 NCAA Frozen Four. This week he's trying to earn a job with the Blues at development camp. "I've always tried try to lead by example," said Porter, who played in 175 consecutive games in four years with the Fighting Sioux. "Last year I was a rookie in Peoria; there were a lot of veterans on the team and I let them be the vocal leaders. I just try to work hard every shift and be an example." That hard work has Porter pushing for a job in the NHL." Chris Porter will make any team better. Now, with the trades of Jamal Meyers and the re-location of former UND alum, Ryan Johnson, Ports has a huge window of opportunity with the up and coming St. Louis Blues. It's obvious what you get with Porter. Incredible 2-way player who will always take the extra step defensively and give up his body to block a shot (he suffered a stress fracture in his foot last spring and finished the last two months with it broken). And yet, the old "Iron Man" keeps on ticking. If I was a betting man I'd project Porter to be there on opening night at ScottTrade Center alongside former teammate, T.J. Oshie. It's time to give some love to one of Thunder Bay's own.

  12. The respective player's "family adivsor" (when a NCAA student athlete has eligibility remaining) can negotiate the contract under the terms as an advisor to the athlete. The NHL team may not contact the athlete or the family of the athlete and must go through the athletes "family advisor" throughout the negotiations process.
  13. It's all about spending some quality time with the guys you've gone to war with for the past three seasons. But I will educate you: First off, both the St. Louis Blues and the Peoria Rivermen were out of playoff contention in the NHL and AHL. With that said, there is no need to push the envelope. Most guys that leave right after their season are part of a NHL team that is still in the regular season or playoff contention. With UND going to the Frozen Four the last four years, it makes it tough to get that "cup of coffee" in the NHL before the end of the regular season. I hope that clears it up. On top of that, Oshie finished his academic portion of being a student/athlete at UND, and had a chance to relish in his memories of his Fighting Sioux career. Just like staying this past year, as Oshie did, defines loyalty to the University, the Athletic Department, the Fighting Sioux name and to the fans of this great community. UND molds tradition, honor and dignity in these young student athletes. Oshie had that before he came here to UND but just personnified it again like he did in Warroad staying his senior year when then Warriors head coach, Cary Eades, transferred to UND. At that point, most kids would have bolted to the USHL but Oshie and his senior teammates made a pact very similar to Oshie, Duncan, Chorney and Finley's of this past year. So, to answer your question, Oshie wanted to make the final month of his collegiate career be memorable, unified and one to never forget. That is why he stayed. To create memories for the rest of his life.
  14. Is now on list. The invitation list grows daily. The hopes of the event is to have the majority of the field affiliated with Fighting Sioux Hockey. There will be others too.
  15. Big A Hug ... the Wisconsin Kid. How could I forget the memories of Hockeytown USA Celeb Golf Tourney. Get your team registered and get into the draft for the Celebrity of your choice.
